  • Woman gets 8 years for abusing child

    A Greensburg woman accused of sodomizing and sexually abusing a child has been sentenced to serve eight years in prison for her crimes.

    Reba Regina Cox, 32, of 1495 Bluff Boom Road appeared before Taylor Circuit Court Judge Doughlas M. George on Tuesday, Jan. 22 for sentencing.

    Cox avoided facing a jury by pleading guilty to second-degree sodomy and six counts of first-degree sex abuse the day before her trial was set to begin in November.

    Cox was also ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years and undergo HIV testing.

  • TCHS announces three new head coaches

    Three new head coaches will take over the reigns of three different athletic programs at Taylor County High School.

    Kelly "K.J." Townsend is the Lady Cardinals' new softball coach while Victor Johnson will be the head track coach and Matt Arnold the boys' soccer coach.

    Townsend, a former player and coach at Campbellsville University, will become the sixth boss of one of the most successful programs at TCHS.

    The Lady Cardinals have won 13 district championships, including the last four and five of the last six.

  • Teachers have all the patience

    As we waited for the morning announcements to begin, we sat quietly in our seats and worked on our journal entries: What are three things that help to make you feel better when you are sick? Tell how they are comforting to you.

    I got a check mark for completing the assignment, and then it was on to adjectives.

    But it wasn't long before all the coffee I drank earlier that morning had me squirming in my seat. I raised my hand. "Miss Dial, may I go to the restroom?" I asked.

  • Netherland earns math medal

    Samantha Netherland was awarded a math medal during a recent assembly at Campbellsville Elementary School.

    Netherland, a fourth grader, earned the medal by completing 80 division problems in less than two minutes.

  • Churches plan joint Ash Wednesday service

    Three local congregations will observe the beginning of the Lenten season, the 40 days preceding Easter, with an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 116 S. Columbia Ave.

    Bethel First Presbyterian Church, Fannie Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and the host congregation will join in the traditional Ash Wednesday liturgy and imposition of ashes; the Rev. Jim Murphy, pastor of Bethel First Presbyterian Church, will be the preacher. Pastors Delmetria Cayson-Combs and Karl Lusk will be the worship leaders.

  • Sheriff's tax audit released

    State Auditor Crit Luallen recently released the annual audit of the settlement of 2006 taxes by Taylor County Sheriff John Shipp.

    The audit found Shipp's financial statement fairly represented the taxes charged, credited and paid for the period April 29, 2006 to April 30, 2007.

    The statement was also found to conform with the modified cash basis of accounting.

    Luallen found no instances of noncompliance and no matters involving control of financial reporting and operations.

  • Taylor spurts last at Marion

    Taylor County won the battle of long runs with a decisive 12-1 finish to down home-standing Marion County 63-47 on Friday night.

    The Cardinals (13-7) took the lead for good at 20-11 on an 11-0 run ending the first quarter and starting the second period.

    Chase Cox's three-pointer started the rally with Shane Morris hitting two free throws, Lloyd Stotts one charity toss, Leonard Macon a lay-up and Josh Gumm a trey during the blitz.

  • Eagles fall in finals at Bardstown

    The Campbellsville High School Eagles could not overcome the talented Bardstown Tigers in the championship game of the Touchstone Energy Fifth Region All "A" Classic championship game and fell 85-67.

    The Tigers (14-4) led by only one at the end of the first quarter (20-19), but the host team went on a 12-0 run in the second quarter to take a 48-34 lead at the break.

  • Lady Knights break away from Lady Cards

    Taylor County's Lady Cardinals stayed within striking distance throughout the first half, but the Tacarra Hayes-Marion County Lady Knights used a 10-0 start in the third quarter to roar past the visitors 70-39 on Friday night in Lebanon.

    Taylor County (8-12) led only once (5-4) on MeLeigha Pollock's two free throws at 4:10 in the first quarter. However, the Lady Cardinals stayed within striking distance (31-21) at the half as Cayla Rucker hit a pair of three-point baskets and finished the second period with a conventional three-point play.

  • Lady Eagles stumble out of gate

    A 22-7 start by Russell County spelled a 59-48 defeat for the Campbellsville High School Lady Eagles at home on Friday night to the Lady Lakers.

    CHS (2-17) won the last three quarters 41-37, but could not overcome the 15-point, first-quarter deficit.

    Danielle Morris, who made the all-tournament and all-academic team at the Touchstone Energy Fifth Region All "A" Classic in Bardstown, led the Lady Eagles with 22 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
