  • Cook-Sharp

    LeeAnn Danielle Cook and Randall Todd Sharp, both of Campbellsville, will exchange wedding vows on Saturday, Sept. 20.

    Cook is the daughter of Garry and Deloris Elmore of Greensburg. Her grandparents are Eulean Vaughn of Green County and the late Robert Vaughn and Dan and Lona Perkins.

    She is a 2000 graduate of Green County High School. Cook is employed at Frost Arnett in Campbellsville.

    Sharp is the son of Randall and Sharon Sharp of Campbellsville. His grandparents are Betty Sharp of Campbellsville, the late Raymond "Peanut" Sharp and Rosie and Harold Milby.

  • County takes comp rate on taxes

    Though some of the County's tax rates are increasing and others are decreasing, revenue is expected to remain the same.

    In the past, Taylor County Fiscal Court has each year approved a "compensating" tax rate, which means that the new tax rate is expected to bring in about the same amount of money as the previous year's rate.

    Magistrates agreed to do the same this year at Tuesday night's regular Fiscal Court meeting. The compensating rate does not require a public hearing.

  • Reeling 'em in

    Jacob Wilson was thrilled with his first catch of the day. He was not so thrilled at the prospect having to unhook the tiny bluegill and toss it back into Green River Lake. So, with his brother Joshua looking on, Jacob turns to his mother, Wilma, for the dirty work.

    Jacob and Joshua were two of about 25 kids who participated in the Green River Lake Kids' Fishing Derby Saturday at Green River Lake State Park.

    The turnout, 34 total, including adults, is about the norm, Park Ranger Larry Lemmon said. On average, about 35 to 40 people attend the annual event.

  • Performing arts season under way at Centre Stage

    The 2008-2009 performing arts season of Center Stage opened Sept. 12 with The Spencers: Theatre of Illusion, a high-energy, entertaining show that combines the elements of theatre with the art of illusion.

    Center Stage is presented by Lake Cumberland Performing Arts in partnership with The Center for Rural Development in Somerset.

  • Sept. 19 registration deadline approaching for October ACT

    The next ACT test will be administered on Oct. 25. Students who wish to take the college admission and placement exam must register by Friday, Sept. 19 - the deadline for having the registration postmarked.

    Late registrations, with an additional fee, will be accepted until the final postmark deadline of Oct. 3.

    Students can register online at www.actstudent.org, or pick up registration packets from high school counseling offices.

    The wedding of Rebecca Ann O'Rourke and Daniel Mark Graham was performed by the Rev. Steve Sholar at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 13 at Eastwood Baptist Church in Bowling Green.

  • CU hosts state legislators' meeting

    Campbellsville University and its hometown were in the spotlight Monday as CU played host to a Kentucky General Assembly Interim Joint Committee on Education meeting.

    To continue the legislature's work between sessions, interim joint committees are formed from the standing committees of both houses. Interim committees draft and approve bills for prefiling at the next regular session.

  • Campbellsville family injured in Marion

    A family from Campbellsville was injured in a single-car crash in Marion County on Sunday.

    According to a Kentucky State Police report, at around 4:57 p.m., David Williams, 40, of Campbellsville, was driving a 2000 Toyota pickup east on U.S. 68. Williams was attempting to pass another vehicle, when a vehicle that had been in the emergency lane pulled back on to the westbound lane. Williams attempted to avoid the vehicle, overcorrected, lost control and overturned without striking the other vehicle.
