  • Furniture store destroyed in fire

    A South Central Avenue business is a total loss after a nighttime fire Saturday.

    According to a Campbellsville Fire Department release, firefighters responded to a fire at Harris Furniture at 10:27 p.m. Upon arrival, smoke was coming from the structure and flames were coming through cracks in the building's metal roof.

    Fire officials believe the fire started in a storage room. The cause is still undetermined.

    Barry Harris is the owner of the business. Lanous and Imogene Muncie are the property owners.

    Twenty-seven firefighters responded with two trucks.

  • Farmer to celebrate 95th birthday

    Milton Farmer will celebrate his 95th birthday on Saturday. A celebration, hosted by his family, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church. They request no gifts. Cards, however, are welcome.

  • Bright-Cundiff

    Pamela Jane Bright and Robert Russell Cundiff will exchange wedding vows on Wednesday, Feb. 27 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

    Bright is the daughter of Carolyn Bright of Campbellsville and the late Wilbur Bright. She has two children, Joshua Graham of Bowling Green and Marsha Graham of Campbellsville.

    She is the general manager of Five Star Food Mart.

    Cundiff is the son of Thelma Cundiff of Columbia and Ed Cundiff of Shepherdsville. He has a daughter, Brittany Cundiff of Mt. Washington.

  • Lady Tiger trio combines for 80 in 91-81 triumph.

    Freshmen Courtney Danis (38) and Melly Heaton (26) combined for 64 points and sophomore Kristi Ensminger added 16 as the Campbellsville University Lady Tigers downed West Virginia Tech 91-81 on Saturday afternoon.

    The Lady Tigers (15-10), who trailed 68-64 with eight minutes left in the game, used four points (two free throws and a basket) and a Heaton hoop to take the lead for good at 6:13.

    Danis' three-point play and Heaton's trey pushed the CU advantage to six and the Lady Tigers never led by less than three the rest of the way.

  • Head Start programs taking applications for fall

    Campbellsville and Taylor County Head Start programs will be accepting applications for the 2008-2009 school year Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    Applications can be picked up at the Campbellsville Head Start Center at 605 W. Main St. or at the Taylor County Head Start Center at 400 Campbellsville Bypass.

    The following information will be necessary for enrollment: proof of birth, proof of income and insurance/Medicaid/KCHIP cards.

    Women in Federal Law Enforcement is an organization incorporated in June 1999 with a goal to achieve gender equity within federal law enforcement through the recruitment, retention and promotion of qualified women in law enforcement, and to develop an information-sharing and support network for all women in law enforcement.

  • Subdivision regulation talks begin

    Though magistrates took the first step toward having County-wide subdivision regulations last month, Taylor County residents aren't any closer to having to abide by those regulations just yet.

    On Tuesday night, magistrates voted to form a committee made up of local real estate personnel, surveyors, contractors and other officials to study the issue and report back to Fiscal Court.

    Magistrates also had first reading of an ordinance formally amending the County's current road system requirements to state that gravel roads will no longer be accepted.

  • Next KHIPP event focuses on Abraham Lincoln

    Campbellsville University's Kentucky Heartland Institute on Public Policy will host "The Legacy of Abraham Lincoln, Relevancy for the 21st Century" on Monday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Little Auditorium of the Student Union Building as a part of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Celebration.

    The event is free and open to the public.

    The statewide celebration officially kicks off at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site in Hodgenville.

  • U of L president to speak at fundraiser

    Ricky Sparkman, Friends of Scouting chair for Taylor County, recently announced that the Taylor County campaign benefiting the Boy Scouts in Taylor County will have its annual fundraising event Tuesday, Feb. 19.

    The event will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Student Activity Center on the Campbellsville University campus.

  • Dr. Asser El-Atfy receives second certification in sleep medicine

    Dr. Asser El-Atfy recently became certified in sleep medicine as part of the American Board of Internal Medicine. This certification is his second board certification in sleep medicine through the ABIM.

    His previous certification was achieved in 2005 through the American Board of Sleep Medicine. El-Atfy's board certifications now include critical care medicine, sleep medicine, pulmonary diseases and internal medicine.
