    When I first heard that a man in a Santa suit had gone on a murderous rampage in Montrose, Calif. on Christmas Eve, I did not know the full story. The first news reports did not tell us that this was in fact a domestic violence situation.

  • Eagle boys win see-saw affair at Marion

    Despite shooting 57 percent (30-53) from the field, Marion County dropped a 74-71 district decision to visiting Campbellsville on Friday.

    CHS trailed 21-17 before going on a 13-0 run in the first half and led by as many as 11 (37-26). However, Marion County (4-9) used a 19-2 sprint of their own to gain a 51-43 advantage in the second half and led by as many as nine.

  • Lady Knights blast Lady Eagles 63-22.

    Marion County’s Lady Knights (11-2) raced out to a 24-0 lead and cruised past the Campbellsville Lady Eagles (2-12) 63-22 on Friday night in Lebanon.

    Eighth-grader Makayla Epps paced Marion County with 22 points and Ashyya Robinson had eight for Campbellsville.

  • LIHEAP crisis program under way

    Applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program's crisis component will be accepted beginning today.

    Applications will be accepted at the Lake Cumberland Community Action Agency office at 110 B North Jackson St., Monday through Friday, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

    Eligible households are those that are within four days of running out of fuel; have received a past due/disconnect notice; or have received an eviction notice and heating costs are an undesignated portion of the rent.

  • Al-Anon offers help for holiday season

    Got the holiday blues? The joys of the holidays can be marred by life's problems, including dealing with the alcoholism of a relative or friend.

    If someone's drinking is bothering you, help is available.

    Al-Anon, an anonymous fellowship, is a recovery program for those whose lives have been adversely affected by alcoholism in a relative or friend.

    The group meets every Monday at noon and Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. at Campbellsville Baptist Church and Fridays at 8 p.m. at the Haven Club at 622 E. Maple St. in Campbellsville.

  • Support group forming

    Organizers are hoping to begin a support group in Adair County for families of children with special needs.

    Anyone interested should call Selena Dial at (270) 634-3783.

    Dial is planning a meeting on the first Thursday of each month for stay-at-home moms and another meeting on the third Thursday for families.

     

  • Church to host Medicare workshop

    First Baptist Church, located at 704 E. Broadway, will host a Medicare workshop on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 6 p.m.

    Bill Haus of Frankfort will share information for seniors and caregivers about programs available - L.I.S, SHIPP and veteran programs.

    Also, seniors will be able to sign up or change supplemental insurance and learn about Medicare parts A, B, C and D. There will be games, prizes and snacks.
