Jewel Cox was excited. So excited, in fact, that the only thing the 5-year-old wanted to do was go to sleep. And it was only noon.

"She knew that when she woke up, she was going to Disney World," her mother said.

Jewel and her family, parents Tony and Shirley, and brother, Ethan, 12, left Feb. 21 for a four-day, all-expense-paid trip to Disney World. The vacation was provided by the Sunshine Foundation, an organization that fulfils the dreams of seriously ill, physically challenged or abused children ages 3 to 18.

The assessment test Kentucky students have taken for the past nine years could be replaced as early as next year.

A senate bill filed last week seeks to replace the Commonwealth Accountability Testing System. And while lawmakers say dropping CATS could save time and money, local administrators aren't sure the move is a good idea.

Taylor County Elementary will be conducting kindergarten registration for the 2008-2009 school year on Thursday and Friday, March 13-14.

Registrations will take place each day from 8:30 a.m. through 2 p.m.

To be eligible for kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old on or before Oct. 1. To register a child for kindergarten, parents must schedule an appointment by calling the elementary school at 465-5691.

Judy Dabney's Sunday school class at Campbellsville Baptist Church made a $415 donation to the Taylor County BackPack Program. For just $20, the BackPack Program is able to feed a child on weekends, school breaks and during the summer.
