  • Ballou bottoms three just before final horn

    Darren Ballou's left baseline three-pointer splashed the net with 1.3 seconds left and Taylor County could not get a timeout and the Adair County Indians repeated as the boys' 20th District Tournament champions 47-44 on the Cardinals' home court.

    "It was a fun night," admitted TCHS head coach Troy Young. "It just didn't end quite right."

    In front of a standing-room-only crowd, Taylor County (19-11) trailed 6-0 early on a pair of threes from Indian junior Corey Helm.

    However, Taylor County fought back to lead 7-6 when Chris Thomas scored on a Chase Cox assist.

  • "We Card" training is March 18

    "We Card" tobacco vendor education training has been scheduled for Tuesday, March 18 at the Taylor County Health Department.

    The "We Card" program is a vendor education program to teach the importance of asking for identification by the vendor who sells tobacco products.

    The training event is for retailers and their employees to learn about the state's minimum age laws and provides tools and materials to help them comply.

  • One injured in Marion crash

    One person was injured in a Marion County crash involving two Campbellsville women Friday.

    According to a Kentucky State Police report, at about 12:22 p.m., Dale Garen, 57, of Seymour, Mo. was driving a 2006 Peterbilt along U.S. 68, just outside of Lebanon, when he attempted to avoid colliding with a 1996 Chevy, driven by Christie Stiths, 34, of Brandenburg. Stiths had slowed her vehicle for an unknown reason, the report states.

    Campbellsville University's Department of Theater invites the public to see the play "The Taming of the Shrew" by William Shakespeare on March 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. and March 9 at 2 p.m. in the University Theater. "The Taming of the Shrew" is a story of secret identities, sarcasm and romance involving two sisters, Bianca and Kate, and many men who want to marry Bianca. But there is one thing stopping them - her sister Kate must marry first, and Kate is mean to everyone and despised by all - a true shrew!

  • Choosing a candidate as easy as 1-2-3

    The presidential race is certainly becoming an interesting one. Like most of America, I've watched several debates between the candidates, checked out their Web sites and read all the news stories I could find, just trying to get a handle on which of the candidates would be best for the job.

    Little did I know the answer was so easy.

    At www.votechooser.com, it was all there for me, presented in easy-to-read terms. All I had to do was answer 10 questions and I would learn which candidate I should vote for in 2008.

    Hmmm.

    So I tried it. And boy was I surprised.

  • CU orchestra concert is March 9

    The Campbellsville University orchestra will present the second annual "Concerto Concert" on Sunday, March 9 at 3 p.m. in the Ransdell Chapel.

  • Magistrate resigns seat on Fiscal Court

    Marshall Caulk has resigned his position as Taylor County's 4th District Magistrate, citing health reasons.

    Taylor County Judge/Executive Eddie Rogers said Caulk recently sent a letter announcing his resignation to Gov. Steve Beshear.

    Rogers said Caulk has recently been unable to attend some of Taylor Fiscal Court's meetings because of illness.

    "He's been an excellent magistrate. We just hate to see him leave," Rogers said. "He's done an excellent job for his district."
