  • History of farm food to be discussed at LWC

    The history of Kentucky farm food in the mid-20th Century will be the topic of an upcoming talk at Lindsey Wilson College.

    Anthropologist John van Willigen will discuss "Food and Everyday Life: Kentucky Farm Life 1920-1950" at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 11. His talk, which is free and open to the public, will be in the college's W.W. Slider Humanities Center Recital Hall. The talk is part of the 2007-2008 Lindsey Wilson Cultural Affairs Series.

  • Alcohol petition making its rounds

    With two weeks left, more than half the signatures needed to include an alcohol-by-the-drink question on the May Primary ballot have been gathered.

    "Right now, we have somewhere in the neighborhood of more than half of the signatures we need," said Mike Kehoe, head pro/general manager at Campbellsville Country Club, who is helping organize the petition effort.

    Last week, Kehoe said, about eight people began a door-to-door campaign to collect the remaining signatures.

    "I'm very confident at this point that there will be enough names."

    March 5, 1998

    Donald and Amy Parker, Campbellsville, announce the birth of a son, Alex Zachary, at 8:21 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 16 at Taylor County Hospital, Campbellsville.

    Dollie Lee, 84, of Pitman Valley Road, Campbellsville, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, in Campbellsville.

    Dr. Eugene Shively received the Physician's Recognition Award recently from the American Medical Association.

    Campbellsville won its third consecutive 20th District Tournament boys' Championship on Saturday night with a 76-50 triumph over Taylor County.

  • Campbellsville Baptist plans 'Journey to Easter'

    Campbellsville Baptist Church will host "The Journey to Easter," an interactive walk-through drama set in first century Jerusalem, two days after the resurrection of the Lord.

    The event will take place Friday through Sunday, March 14-16 beginning at 6:30 each night. Guests may arrive any time between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.

  • First Baptist to host 100 Voices of Praise

    First Baptist Church will host 100 Voices of Praise on Saturday.

    As part of the Nehemiah Project of Kentucky Baptists, 100 men will sing during a 7 p.m. service at the church.

    Chaired by Barbara Johnson, the project's goal is to raise $100,000 for the rebuilding of Simmons Bible College of Kentucky.

    The community is invited to attend. The church is located at 704 E. Broadway in Campbellsville.

  • First Cumberland to host mini-drama

    "In Christ Alone," a cantata and mini-drama, will be presented at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 22 at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, March 23 as part of the 11 a.m. worship service.

    The church is located at 500 Cumberland Way in Campbellsville.

  • Love and break ups

    The other day a friend announced that she had "broken up" with her daughter. She laughed as she said it, but there was a hint of seriousness to her words. At any rate, she was obviously upset.

    "What did your daughter say about it?" I asked. I couldn't imagine a mother actually doing something like that, although I'm sure it crosses most moms' minds at least occasionally.

    "Oh, I didn't tell her!" she said. "I broke up with her secretly. Besides, I don't think it's possible for a mom to break up with a child."
