  • Man arrested after chase at local motel

    A Campbellsville man has been arrested and charged with drug crimes after he ran from police officers at Lucky Vista Motel.

    According to a report filed by Taylor County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Allen Newton, DeWayne "Blue" Smith, 47, of 608 Birdwood was arrested at about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

    Taylor County Sheriff's deputies were responding to a tip that Smith was staying at Lucky Vista Motel.

    The report states deputies were attempting to serve bench and parole violation warrants on Smith.

    Just before their arrival, Smith fled on foot across a field behind the motel.

  • CU dialogue on public issues features state representative candidates

    Campbellsville University's TV-4, WLCU, will feature interviews with the candidates for state representative in the 51st District.

    John Chowning, host of TV-4's "Dialogue on Public Issues" program, has interviewed the three Republican candidates for the seat now occupied by State Rep. Russ Mobley, R-Campbellsville, who will not seek re-election. Chowning has also interviewed Doug Mullins, the Democratic Party nominee for the fall general election.

  • CU professor receives Ph.D.

    Dr. Beverly Ennis, assistant professor of education at Campbellsville University, has received her Ph.D. degree.

    Ennis graduated from the University of Louisville-Western Kentucky University Cooperative Doctoral Program. Her Ph.D. is in educational leadership and organizational development.

    "She accomplished this goal by being thoroughly prepared and having in-depth knowledge of her study and her research method," said Dr. Brenda Priddy, dean of the School of Education at Campbellsville University.

  • Patterson celebrates fourth birthday

    Nathan Travis Patterson celebrated his fourth birthday recently with family and friends. He is the son of Brent and Chanci Patterson. Grandparents are Ronald and Julia Knifley and Connie Patterson. Great-grandparents are Annie Dicken, Justine Knifley and Kathleen Patterson.     Heather Cundiff of Campbellsville donated 14 inches of her hair to Locks of Love, an organization that provides hair to children with illness-related hair loss. She is the daughter of Mark and Melony Cundiff.

  • Marion County Japanese Cultural Day is March 30

    Ever wanted to learn how to use chopsticks? At the eighth annual Marion County Japanese Cultural Day, visitors can do that and more.

    See sword fights, sample traditional Japanese food and listen to the thundering rhythms of chudaiko and odaiko drums.

    This year's festival is Sunday at the Centre Square Convention Center in historic downtown Lebanon. The event is from 1 to 4 p.m. Parking and admission is free.

  • Students celebrate National Junior Beta Week

    March 3-7 was National Junior Beta Week. Members of the Junior Beta Club at Taylor County Elementary School have been involved in a variety of community service activities this year.

    The students have collected items for the food pantry and eyeglasses for the Lions Club. They have also collected cell phones and inkjet cartridges for recycling.

    At Christmas, they assembled holiday baskets, which were distributed to Taylor County families by the Family Resource Center. Several members are also volunteering their time at local nursing homes and at school and church activities.

    Leona Warren and Alan Posey will exchange wedding vows on Friday, April 11.

    Warren is the daughter of Mary Warren and the late Roy Warren.

    Posey is the son of Nelson and Judy Posey.

    The wedding ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Elk Horn Baptist Church.

    All family and friends are invited to attend. No formal invitations will be sent.
