  • Tiger baseballers drop two in MSC opener at LWC

    The unpredictable early-season weather has been playing havoc on the Campbellsville University baseball Tigers in coach Beauford Sanders' 18th season at the helm.

    The Tigers began the 2008 campaign with a 6-5 home win over Union (Ky.) College on Feb. 19.

    Shortstop Lee Darracott led the CU 10-hit attack with three hits while first-baseman Nick Smith and designated hitter Hector Urbaneja had two hits apiece. Smith had three runs batted in while Darracott and center-fielder Brandon Hunter scored two runs apiece.

  • Lowell Avenue to host 'gas-up' outreach project

    Lowell Avenue Baptist Church youth are sponsoring a "Gas-Up On Us" outreach project on Saturday at Lil T's Traffic Stop.

    Youth group members will be pumping gas, which will be sold at 25 cents off per gallon. There will be a 25-gallon limit per vehicle, and gas will be pumped into vehicle tanks only. No barrels or gas cans will be accepted.

    The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until 4,000 gallons of gas are sold.

    Lil T's is located at 906 Lebanon Ave. in Campbellsville. For more information, call the church at 465-7163.

    Nicholas and Wanita Wenger of Elk Horn announce the birth of a daughter, Shyann Rylie, at 9:05 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon. She weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20 inches long.

    Grandparents are Russell and Barbara Jean Martin and Noah and Amelia Wenger, all of Elk Horn.

    Great-grandparents are Marvin and Elsie Stauffer and Lilly Martin, all of Elk Horn.

    March 19, 1998

    The children of David and Ruth Quisenberry will host a celebration in honor of their parents' 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, March 28.

    Jonathan C. Rafferty received a bachelor of science degree in accounting on Dec. 12 from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va.

    Christopher S. Brockman had been named to the dean's list at the University of Kentucky for achieving an outstanding academic record during the 1997 fall semester.

  • Lovely to speak at LWC

    Opportunities for individuals to become "community patriots" will be the topic of an upcoming talk at Lindsey Wilson College.

    Kentucky League of Cities Executive Director Sylvia Lovely will speak about her book, "The Little Red Book of Everyday Heroes: How Ordinary People Can Become Community Patriots," at 5 p.m. ET Tuesday, March 25 in the Thomas D. Clark Reading Room of the Holloway Building.

    Lovely's talk - which is part of the Lindsey Wilson Lecture Series on Civic Engagement - is free and open to the public.

  • Cornettes celebrate Leap Year birthday

    Katelyn Cornette and Jacob Cornette celebrated their Leap Day birthday with a three-day party consisting of a George Strait concert in Lexington, a pool party/sleepover at Holiday Day Inn Express and Chuck E. Cheese. The 12-year-olds are the children of Clifton and Kim Carter of Campbellsville and David Cornette of Florida. They are the grandchildren of Don and Sue Green of Campbellsville.

  • Cleanup week begins Monday

    Those wanting to clean out their attics and garages in honor of the arrival of spring can also "spring clean" the community next week.

    The 10th annual Commonwealth Cleanup Week - a week-long event geared toward "spring cleaning" Kentucky's communities - begins Sunday.

    Taylor County Solid Waste Coordinator Debbie McNear said those interested in pitching in should contact her to make the arrangements.

    As of Tuesday, however, no groups had signed up to participate though she said she sent information to several local church and school groups.
