  • Marion County Japanese Cultural Day is March 30

    Ever wanted to learn how to use chopsticks? At the eighth annual Marion County Japanese Cultural Day, visitors can do that and more.

    See sword fights, sample traditional Japanese food and listen to the thundering rhythms of chudaiko and odaiko drums.

    This year's festival is Sunday at the Centre Square Convention Center in historic downtown Lebanon. The event is from 1 to 4 p.m. Parking and admission is free.

  • Students celebrate National Junior Beta Week

    March 3-7 was National Junior Beta Week. Members of the Junior Beta Club at Taylor County Elementary School have been involved in a variety of community service activities this year.

    The students have collected items for the food pantry and eyeglasses for the Lions Club. They have also collected cell phones and inkjet cartridges for recycling.

    At Christmas, they assembled holiday baskets, which were distributed to Taylor County families by the Family Resource Center. Several members are also volunteering their time at local nursing homes and at school and church activities.

    Leona Warren and Alan Posey will exchange wedding vows on Friday, April 11.

    Warren is the daughter of Mary Warren and the late Roy Warren.

    Posey is the son of Nelson and Judy Posey.

    The wedding ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Elk Horn Baptist Church.

    All family and friends are invited to attend. No formal invitations will be sent.

  • Feathersburg Church of God plans revival

    Feathersburg Church of God will be hosting a revival from Sunday, April 6 through Wednesday, April 9.

    Service times are Sunday morning at 10:45 and Sunday evening at 6. Services on Monday through Wednesday are at 7 p.m.

    Bro. Charlie Heater of Paintsville, Ky. will be the evangelist. Special music is planned for each service.

  • Weather spotter class offered April 8

    Taylor County Emergency Management, in conjunction with Campbellsville-Taylor County Fire Department, will host an advanced spotters class at the Campbellsville-Taylor County Fire Department's third floor meeting room Tuesday, April 8 at 7 p.m.

    The certified training will be taught by National Weather Service staff and will last about two hours. Emergency service personnel, school officials, industrial safety officials, those responsible for public safety and the general public are invited to attend.

  • Taylor weightlifters do well

    Taylor County finished in a third-place tie in Class 3A at the Kentucky High School State Weightlifting Meet on March 15 at Central Hardin.

    The Cardinals tied Elizabethtown behind Russell and Spencer counties in a competition with more than 380 participants.

    Junior Chris Thomas paced Taylor County to its high finish by winning the 205-pound weight class with lifts totaling 920 pounds - 340 on bench press and a dead lift of 580 pounds.

    Other Cards performers were:

    - Sophomore Huston Bragg, 14th in the heavyweight class (710, 250-460)
