  • Lady Eagle softballers upend John Hardin

    Campbellsville's Lady Eagles pushed across two runs in the bottom of the sixth to edge John Hardin 7-6 at home on Thursday night.

    The win, the first for first-year head coach Dale Estes, was spearheaded by the three-hit game of Ashley Bates and the two-hit performances of winning pitcher Danielle Morris, Chelsie Gamboa, Ashley Kessinger and Hannah Taylor.

    Morris, who struck out seven and walked none, also had two runs batted in while Bates, Gamboa, Kessinger and Jessica Cox had one RBI apiece.

  • CHS students attend Great Kids Summit

    Campbellsville High School students recently attended the Great Kids Summit in Lexington. Students were involved in various activities that emphasized leadership skills and team building. Stedman Graham was the summit's keynote speaker and Survivor's Kentucky Joe was also a conference presenter. The summit was sponsored by Kentucky Child Now.

  • Holmes does pretty well during his down time

    John "J.B." Holmes had to finish two holes on Monday in the rain-delayed WGC-CA Championship in Miami before flying "home" to Orlando for the Tavistock Cup.

    The two-day tourney, consisting of members from Isleworth and Lake Nona country clubs, gives more than $1 million to charity.

    But, the big winner on Monday and Tuesday was the 25-year-old Holmes (he turns 26 on April 26).

  • DECA recognizes outstanding school stores

    The School-Based Enterprise at Taylor County High School was among the school stores to achieve Gold Level Certification this year and will be recognized at DECA's International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Ga.

    Wes Parker, store manager, worked on the certification with the assistance of his advisor, Patty Evans. The school store at Taylor County High School has operated an SBE for 13 years.

  • Wacky for Webkinz

    Their soft, furry bodies come in colorful colors and are small enough for tiny hands to tote around everywhere. They offer comfort and security to their little owners as well as teach them computer skills and how to care for others.

    Collecting Webkinz is the latest craze for children, much like the baseball cards, Hotwheels and Beanie Babies of the past.

    For Easter, Chloe Eastridge said she didn't want candy - just Webkinz.

    The 7-year-old has collected 103 of the pets.

    "For Christmas, birthdays ... That's all she asks for," says her mother, Jessica Eastridge.

    It really is true. What goes around comes around. Do good things for others and it'll come back to you.

    Last week, there were about 100 people from North Carolina in Campbellsville doing good things. Perhaps it was a touch of payback for all the good things our community has done for others.

  • Graduation parties separate

    Seniors at Campbellsville and Taylor County high schools won't be celebrating together after graduation this year.

    Project Graduation, the annual celebration planned for high school seniors to attend after their graduation ceremony, will be split this year, with Taylor County and Campbellsville schools hosting their own celebrations.

    Project Graduation began in 1986 as a way to provide new high school graduates with a drug- and alcohol-free atmosphere to enjoy what could be their last time together before each pursues their life goals.

  • City Lake is open

    The Sportsman Club at City Lake is open for the 2008 season.

    Membership cards cover a family - a man, spouse and children under 16 years. Memberships can be purchased at the bait house.

    The lake will be stocked with all species, both quality and quantity. The bait house has all seasonal live bait and fishing accessories. Hunting and fishing licenses are also available.

    Crappie have been the hottest catch, lost in the 2-pound range. Bluegill are beginning to come around, according to Tom Allen, Sportsman Club president.

  • Bowl for kids Sake is April 19-20

    Ten teams have already signed up for the annual Bowl for Kids Sake - to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters.

    Lanes will be reserved at Phillips Lanes on Saturday and Sunday, April 19-20 (at 2, 4 and 6 p.m.)

    A minimum of $60 in pledges is required for team members ($80 for a Bowl for Kids Sake T-shirt).

    Pledge sheets may be picked up at Phillips Lanes, the Central Kentucky News-Journal, the two Gate locations, the two FasTrack locations or by contacting Bob Belknap (bob.belknap@bbbs.org) or Ricky Burress (ricky_burress@yahoo.com).
