  • Next arts series' event is April 10-11

    In 2006-2007, a "Home Roots Series" began as a part of the Central Kentucky Arts Series.

    Todd Parker brought The Youth Performing Arts School Percussion Ensemble to Campbellsville High School's Hamilton Auditorium. This season features John Paul Davenport, Campbellsville native, bringing his high school students from Oxford, Miss. to perform "The Chairs."

    On Thursday, April 10 and Friday, April 11, the Oxford students will present the play, "The Chairs," at 7 p.m. at the Campbellsville University Theatre.

  • Reaching Out

    Kathryn London, a high school junior from Boone, N.C., stood atop the roof of a house Monday afternoon on Chestnut Street in Campbellsville. She and others were replacing roof shingles.

    Across town, a house on Robin Road is also getting a new roof, and a house on Sycamore Loop is getting a new deck.

    Unlike many who choose to spend their spring break sunning at the beach, nearly 100 students and adults from Boone, N.C. are spending their spring break working in Campbellsville.

    Why? London said it's simple.

    "Because we get to help people."

  • Gamm-Newcomb

    Ashley Lauren Gamm of Owenton and Samuel Ryan Newcomb of Frankfort exchanged wedding vows Sept. 2 at Florence Nature Park in Florence, Ky.

    Daven Watkins performed the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Paul and Lee Ann Gamm of Owenton.

    The groom is the son of Sam and Shiela Newcomb of Campbellsville. His grandmother is Opal Wood of Campbellsville.

    Alecia Hubbard of Owenton served as the maid of honor. Bridesmaid was Lyndsay Von Bokern of Palm Beach, Fla. Meg Gamm of Owenton served as the flower girl.

  • Saloma Baptist Church plans several events

    Saloma Baptist Church has several upcoming events planned that are open to the community.

    The church is located at 1550 W. Saloma Road (KY 744) about 4 miles north of Campbellsville.

    Movie Night

    Saloma Baptist Church will host movie night on Sunday, April 6 beginning at 5 p.m. The evening feature is the local premiere showing of a new movie release titled "The Wager," which is based on the book by best selling author Bill Myers.

    Campbellsville Elementary students Kyler Rakes, Destin Wilcoxsin, Myles Murrell, Casey Hardin and Hannah Goff were recognized at a recent assembly for math achievement. These first graders completed levels in rocket math to earn this math award.

  • Christian actor and writer to speak at CU

    Curt Cloninger, Christian professional actor and writer, will present "Theatre with a Lasting Impression" during Campbellsville University's annual Staley Distinguished Scholar Series on Wednesday and Thursday, April 9-10.

    Cloninger will speak at chapel Wednesday, April 9 at 10 a.m. in the Ransdell Chapel. He will also speak Wednesday and Thursday nights in the Ransdell Chapel at 7 and also will be speaking in several classes. All programs are free and open to the public.

  • Man arrested after chase at local motel

    A Campbellsville man has been arrested and charged with drug crimes after he ran from police officers at Lucky Vista Motel.

    According to a report filed by Taylor County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Allen Newton, DeWayne "Blue" Smith, 47, of 608 Birdwood was arrested at about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

    Taylor County Sheriff's deputies were responding to a tip that Smith was staying at Lucky Vista Motel.

    The report states deputies were attempting to serve bench and parole violation warrants on Smith.

    Just before their arrival, Smith fled on foot across a field behind the motel.

  • CU dialogue on public issues features state representative candidates

    Campbellsville University's TV-4, WLCU, will feature interviews with the candidates for state representative in the 51st District.

    John Chowning, host of TV-4's "Dialogue on Public Issues" program, has interviewed the three Republican candidates for the seat now occupied by State Rep. Russ Mobley, R-Campbellsville, who will not seek re-election. Chowning has also interviewed Doug Mullins, the Democratic Party nominee for the fall general election.

  • CU professor receives Ph.D.

    Dr. Beverly Ennis, assistant professor of education at Campbellsville University, has received her Ph.D. degree.

    Ennis graduated from the University of Louisville-Western Kentucky University Cooperative Doctoral Program. Her Ph.D. is in educational leadership and organizational development.

    "She accomplished this goal by being thoroughly prepared and having in-depth knowledge of her study and her research method," said Dr. Brenda Priddy, dean of the School of Education at Campbellsville University.
