  • Council could consider building code

    Dilapidated, dangerous homes could become a thing of the past in Campbellsville.

    During their regular meeting Monday, Campbellsville City Council members discussed adopting the International Property Maintenance Code. The code would give the City more authority concerning homes that are unsafe, according to Campbellsville Mayor Brenda Allen.

    "A lot of what we have on the books has no teeth," said City Attorney John Bertram.

  • News-Journal staff wins seven awards

    The Central Kentucky News-Journal editorial staff won seven awards at the annual Landmark Community Newspapers Inc. editorial awards luncheon last Friday.

    The awards presentation followed the annual LCNI advertising/editorial meeting held this year at the Hyatt Regency in Louisville.

    The contest is a competition between more than 55 LCNI newspapers across the country - including dailies, weeklies and multi-weeklies. The News-Journal competes in the multi-weekly category.

    Editor Rebecca Cassell won a first-place award for Best Front Page Design.

  • May graduates from ITT Tech

    Wes May graduated from ITT Technical Institute in Louisville on March 29.

    May graduated with highest honors and was recognized for two-year academic excellence.

    He maintained a 3.95 GPA in computer multimedia design throughout his schooling and was a member of the National Technical Honor Society.

    May attended the University of Louisville and Speed Scientific School before graduating from ITT Tech.

    He is the son of Gary and Carol Anne May of Elk Horn. His grandparents are Emery and Roberta May of Campbellsville.

  • Losing to win

    I work with a bunch of losers. Currently, they're vying for the title of the Biggest Loser.

    Based on the reality TV show, The Biggest Loser, some of my co-workers decided to form teams and challenge each other to see who can lose the most weight (percentage, not total pounds) in eight weeks.

    They paid $5 per person to enter the challenge and agreed to weigh in weekly. The team that loses the least or any team that gains weight has to pay a $2 fine. At the end of the eight weeks, the winners get all the money in the pot.

    Thus, the biggest winner is the biggest loser.

  • Williams-Kroger

    Brianne Williams and Kevin Thomas Kroger, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, exchanged wedding vows on Friday, Feb. 29 at the Planet Hollywood Hotel Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nev.

    The bride is the daughter of Pete and Mary Williams, formerly of Campbellsville.

    The groom is the son of Steve and Judy Kroger of Covington, Ky. He is the grandson of Peggy Kroger of Covington.

    Music for the ceremony included "One Hand, One Heart" from "West Side Story."

    The bride wore a champagne taffeta strapless gown with a Betsy Johnson bolero.
