    April 30, 1998

    Elaine Asher recently planted a Japanese red maple tree in Miller Park in memory of her husband, Thomas J. Asher III, who died in 1993.

    Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Noe of Greensburg will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, May 3 at South Summersville Baptist Church.

    Janice M. Arnold and Doug N. Clark announce their forthcoming marriage, Saturday, May 16 at Salem Baptist Church in Campbellsville.

    Taylor County's unemployment rate for March was 18 percent, the second highest in the state.

  • PopRocks

    Up-tempo pop music will fill Taylor County Middle School's gymnasium next week.

    The Taylor County High School Show Choir will present its spring production "PopRocks," featuring classic pop and rock songs.

    The show is directed by TCHS Choral Director Lisa Gupton. The assistant director is Brandon Centers.

  • Future Farmers earn several superior ratings at regionals

    Taylor County Future Farmers of America spent the month of March in regional competition.

    The competition was divided into three days. The first day was March 18, when the small engine team and welding team competed. The welding team, consisting of Kayla Cash, Zachary Powell, Jacob Noel and Jeremy Perkins, received a superior first rating. The small engine team, with members Dakota Gilbert, Casey Marlow, Justin Wooldridge and Justin Gribbins, received a superior rating.

  • Taylor County: What better place to live?

    We all knew it. But now others are learning as well. Taylor County is a wonderful place in which to live and raise a family.

    A story on today's front page tells about a family - a large, extended family - who moved to Taylor County from Las Vegas, Nev. last year. They did so because they visited the area and liked it. A family, passing through, gets the feeling that this is the place for them to live. Sounds like a made-for-TV movie script.

    They thought it would be a better place in which to raise their growing family than in the frantic, big-city atmosphere of Las Vegas.

  • Watkins-Benningfield

    Tina Hudson Watkins and David "BB" Benningfield, both of Campbellsville, will exchange wedding vows on Saturday, May 31.

    Watkins is the daughter of Elsie Hudson of Winter Haven, Fla., and the late James Hudson. Her grandparents are Margret Wells of Tipler, Wis., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sylvester and Albert Hudson.

    She is a 1994 graduate of Winter Haven High School.

    Other feature winners included P.J. Feistritzer of Danville in Kentucky National Guard Pro Late Models, Benji Lee of St. Joe in Hardee's Modifieds and Bartley Grant of Berea and Logan Whitis of Hustonville finished in a dead-heat tie for the SkyTower Power Race Engines Sportsman feature win.

  • Birth Announcements

    Phillip and Tina Craig of Lebanon announce the birth of twin daughters, Kinley Rae and Shelby Jo, on Thursday, March 6 at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville. Kinley Rae, born at 10:54 p.m., weighed 3 pounds, 7 ounces and was 16 inches long. Shelby Jo, born at 10:55 p.m., weighed 4 pounds, 2 ounces and was 16 1/2 inches long.

    Grandparents are Mary Lou and Leonard Spalding and Harold and Dorothy Jean Craig, all of Lebanon.

    Great-grandparent is Frank Murphy of Lebanon.

  • Rakes-Brockman

    Kelli Rene Rakes and Bradley Owen Brockman, both of Campbellsville, will exchange wedding vows on Saturday, June 7.

    Rakes is the daughter of Patricia Rakes and Larry Rakes, both of Campbellsville. Her grandparents are the late Ernest and Ann Dial and Lanis and Marie Rakes.

    She is a graduate of Campbellsville High School.

    Brockman is the son of Janet and Rocky Edwards and Frank Owen and Patti Brockman, all of Campbellsville. His grandparents are Reba and Doug Martin of Campbellsville and the late Ray and Fran Brockman.
