  • Dr. Yoli Carter speaks to CU faculty and staff about diversity issues in higher education

    Campbellsville University

    Dr. Yolanda "Yoli" Carter spoke on higher education diversity issues in Ransdell Chapel recently to about 300 Campbellsville University faculty and staff members.

    She was there at the invitation of the university's diversity committee.

    The 212 international students, representing 34 nations, make CU the largest international population at any of Kentucky's private colleges.

  • One injured in single-car crash

    One person was injured in a single-car crash Thursday night.

    According to a Kentucky State Police report, Robin Raynor, 51, of Campbellsville was traveling east on Spurlington Road in a 1998 Oldsmobile at about 9:08 p.m. when her car struck a guardrail.

    Raynor was treated at Taylor Regional Hospital and later transferred to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of a head injury. Raynor was in stable condition on Friday.

    Kentucky State Trooper David Smith investigated.

  • Kirtley attends Governor's School for the Arts

    Haley Kirtley, a Taylor County High School junior, recently took part in the Kentucky Governors School for the Arts.

    Kirtley, the only local student to participate, competed in drama and news media. She was among 1,300 from across the state to compete.

    GSA provides hands-on arts opportunities for the states talented high school students who are dancers, actors, instrumental and vocal musicians, creative writers, future architects and visual artists.

    Kirtley plans to major in photography. She is the daughter of Robert and Carol Kirtley of Campbellsville.

  • PTSO taking parent member nominations

    Taylor County Middle School PTSO nominating committee is now accepting applications for site-based decision making council parent members for the 2008-2009 school year.

    Nomination forms may be picked up at the TCMS office and must be returned by April 25 to the office.

    Election will be April 30 in the TCMS cafeteria.

  • CU hears about legacy of Abraham Lincoln

    "Lincoln was a politician beyond compare," said Dr. Damon Eubank, professor of history at Campbellsville University, at "The Legacy of Abraham Lincoln, Relevancy for the 21st Century" forum presented by Campbellsville University's Kentucky Heartland Institute on Public Policy recently.

    This event was part of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Celebration.

  • Lady Eagles third at Greenwood meet

    Coach Katie Wilkerson's Campbellsville High School Lady Eagles finished third (behind Greenwood and West Jessmaine and ahead of Warren Central and Franklin-Simpson) at the five-team Greenwood Ribbon Invitational on Saturday in Bowling Green.

    Eighth-grader Kelsey Feltner paced the Lady Eagles by winning the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes and also being on the second-place 4x100- and 4x-200-meter relay teams (along with Danika Smith, Erica Crider and Stephanie Cowherd).

    Smith was second in the 100 dash while Crider was fourth in 100 hurdles and Baker fourth in the discus.

  • LWC to host representative candidates' forum

    Area residents will have a chance on Monday night to meet the four candidates who want to represent Kentucky's 51st District in the House of Representatives.

    A forum for the four candidates will begin at 7 p.m. ET at Lindsey Wilson College's Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center. The forum is free and open to the public.

    The event is sponsored by the Lindsey Wilson student group Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success.

  • Students receive awards at state history convention

    Members of the Tebbs Bend Historians were honored at the 2008 Kentucky Junior Historical Society Convention.

    The 46th annual Kentucky Junior Historical Society convention, held March 27-29 in Frankfort, gathers student historians from every corner of the commonwealth in grades K-12. These students submit prepared projects in various categories, including historical exhibit, genealogical research, photography, performance and art.

    "These students are learning an appreciation for our state's history," says Kent Whitworth, executive director of the Kentucky Historical Society.

  • Cheap drugs come at a high cost

    It's getting more and more expensive to be an American consumer. With energy and food costs rising, inflation hit 4.1 percent in 2007, the highest level in 17 years. Buying imports and traveling are getting pricier, too, with the value of the greenback hitting historic lows against the Canadian dollar and the Euro.

    Amid this bleak scenario, one important class of consumer good stands out as a bargain - prescription drugs. In the last year, drug prices have risen by just 1 percent. That's well under the rate of inflation, and the lowest annual price increase in three decades.
