  • State of marriage address

    While out for our semi-regular Sunday drive, as I flipped through the radio stations I asked my husband what kind of music he liked.

    That's the kind of questions you ask on a first date, not after 34 years of marriage!

    I'm not sure what that says about the state of our marriage. You don't even know what kind of music your husband likes?

    Um, not exactly, although I have a good idea what he doesn't like. I can rule out heavy metal and polka and most music recorded after 1979.

  • Birth Announcements

    Michael and Melissa Mitchell of Campbellsville announce the birth of a son, Peyton William Glenn E., at 7:22 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. He weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long.

    Grandparents are Billy and Sissy Mattingly and Doug and Sandy Mitchell, all of Campbellsville.

    Great-grandparents are Bill and Gladys Mattingly and Elbert and Jewell Puyear, all of Campbellsville, Almeda Mitchell of Chaplin, Ky., and the late Edna Evelyn Mattingly and Ernest Mitchell.

  • Kocian honored with baby shower

    Sue Chandler Kocian was honored with a baby shower on May 3 at the home of Rhonda Smith.   • England celebrates 30th birthday

    Kathy England celebrated her 30th birthday with family and friends at the home of her mother, Helen Janes, on Saturday, May 9.

  • England-Worthington

    Laryessa Dawn England and Brent Robert Worthington, both of Crofton, Md., will exchange wedding vows on Saturday, May 30.

    England is the daughter of Larry and Betty Sue England of Campbellsville. Her grandparents are Herbert and Elizabeth England of Campbellsville and the late Donald and Dica McGlocklin.

    She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a master's degree in dietetic administration. She is employed as a clinical dietitian at Harbor Hospital in Baltimore, Md.

  • CKNJ news staff brings home second place for 'This Is Taylor County' publication

    The Central Kentucky News-Journal editorial staff won seven awards in the annual Landmark Community Newspapers Inc. editorial contest.

    In all, the News-Journal collected two second-place awards, three third-place awards and an honorable mention.

    The news staff was awarded second place for its "This Is Taylor County" community guide in the Special Section category. The news staff consists of Editor Rebecca Cassell, Sports Editor Bobby Brockman, Staff Writers James Roberts and Calen McKinney and Social Writer Neila Schuhmann.

  • Elkhorn United Methodist to host fish fry, gospel singing

    Elkhorn United Methodist Church will host a fish fry and gospel singing on Saturday.

    The event will take place from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Acton Retreat Center.

    Entertainment will include:

    True Gospel, 4:30 p.m.; Revived, 5 p.m.; Living Waters, 5:30 p.m.; Doyle Stearns, 6 p.m.; Gospel Train, 6:15 p.m.; Jim Durham, 6:45 p.m.; For God So Loved, 7 p.m. and Anthony Meadows, 7:30 p.m.

  • Campbellsville Christian to 'Focus on the Present' on Sunday

    Campbellsville Christian Church will continue the celebration of its 125th anniversary on Sunday with "Focus on the Present."

    Guests for the day will be former senior minister John Hays and former associate minister of music Mike Bowen.

    From the Heart, a ladies' ensemble, will provide special music.

    Current ministries and activities of the church will be highlighted.

    At 10:45 a.m., a church family portrait will be made on the Maple Street steps.
