  • Library sponsors art contest, display

    The Taylor County Public Library and The Friends of the Library are hosting an art display and contest for children.

    Children in preschool through 12th grade are encouraged to participate. There will be four age categories with prizes. All appropriate artwork will be on display at the library.

    The artwork is to be based on the child's favorite book. Art may be done on paper or canvas no larger than 15 by 11 inches, or it may be a diorama no larger than a shoebox. Children may choose whatever media they desire - crayons, pencils, watercolors, markers or other paints.

  • Ximenes honored with baby shower

    Heidy Ximenes was honored with a baby shower on May 3 at the home of David and Marlow McCullough. Pictured are, from left: Hostesses Marlow McCullough, Nevalyn Moore, Jeanne Gaddis and Anne Gibbs, Heidy and her husband Vanedson Ximenes. The couple is expecting their first child, a girl, in late June.

  • KCS preschoolers complete Book It program

    Kentucky Christian Preschool students completed the Book It reading program and received free pizza certificates. Pictured are, sitting, Keeli Farmer and Holly Brents.   • Begley wins math-a-thon

    Grace Begley was the school-wide winner of the Math-a-Thon event at Campbellsville Elementary School. She raised $221. Students in kindergarten through fourth grade participated in the event, which raised $3,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

  • Moore retiring from CU

    Nevalyn Moore has a list. She made her list 15 years ago. It's a 3x5 index card, and it has 15 items on it.

    She shared the list, which is what she wants to do upon her retirement, with Campbellsville University's faculty and staff at the 25th annual Faculty and Staff Recognition Service held April 25 in the Winters Dining Hall.

    Moore is retiring after this academic year after 25 years of teaching at CU.

  • Walsh speaks to drivers' ed students

    Deputy Sheriff Bill Walsh, school resource officer at Taylor County High School, recently addressed drivers' education students at TCHS.

    He spoke on the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. This is one way in which law enforcement officials can work with students to reduce the incidences and results of driving while impaired.

    Walsh was with the Kentucky State Police for 27 years before retiring and joining the Taylor County Sheriff's Department.

  • CMS drama club to present 'I Need a Vacation'

    The Campbellsville Middle School Drama Club, "Drama Obsessed at CMS," will perform "I Need a Vacation" on Monday at 6 p.m. in the CMS gymnasium.

    Tickets will be available at the door at $3 for adults and $1 for students. Children age 5 and under are free.

    The musical takes students from a boring school day to the excitement of a family vacation.

    A reception will follow the performance in the CMS cafeteria.

    The production is funded by VSA Arts of Kentucky, a non-profit organization that provides opportunities in the arts for people with disabilities.

  • First Baptist to host pastor anniversary celebration

    First Baptist Church will host an anniversary celebration in honor of Pastor Daniel C. Shull on Sunday, May 25.

    Guest speakers will be the Rev. James "Doc" Shelton of Nashville, Tenn. and Dr. Kevin Cosby and St. Stephen Church of Louisville.

    Shelton will speak during the morning worship service at 11:15. Cosby and St. Stephen Church will be guests during the 7 p.m. service.

    The community is invited to attend.

  • Autism institute event offers help for parents

    Parents and professionals will gather at the 9th annual Autism Institute on June 5-7 at the Louisville Marriott Downtown.

    The Autism Institute features strategies and techniques to enhance the lives of those affected by autism.

    It will feature more than 20 sessions from national and regional presenters, a provider expo, teacher-to-teacher sessions and autism related vendors and other resources.

  • Preschoolers go fishing

    Taylor County Preschool Community Based Instruction hosted its fourth annual fishing tournament. Pictured are Jennifer Gabehart and Peggy Crabtree's classes, who fished at David Burton's pond. Also fishing were Carolyn Bennett and Laura Sallee's classes, who fished at Buck Lewis' pond. Fishing winners were Logan Skaggs, 5, smallest fish; Abigail Brock, 5, most fish; and Cole Nallia, 4, largest fish.
