  • Lake Cumberland honors employee of the month

     

    Janet Cowherd was recently chosen as Feburary's employee of the month at Lake Cumberland District Health Department.

    Cowherd was selected for her extra efforts in arranging for resources for a needy child. Taylor County is included in the LCDHD district.

  • Forcht Bank ice cream machine will offer free ice cream

     

    Forcht Bank wants to help everyone beat the heat this summer.

    That’s why the bank is introducing its “Ice Cream Machine,” a van that will bring free ice cream to community events in various Kentucky cities throughout the summer.

    Starting with Thunder Over Louisville, the kickoff to the Kentucky Derby Festival, the Ice Cream Machine will be at community events in cities where the bank is located, handing out free cups of ice cream.

  • Monster Truck at Don Franklin

     

    The Ram Truck brand and Don Franklin Auto are bringing the award-winning Raminator monster truck, driven by Hall Brothers Racing, to the Campbellsville Chrysler Group dealership tomorrow and Saturday.

    The Raminator will crush more than 8,000 pounds of steel at 6 p.m. tomorrow and 1 p.m. on Saturday.

  • Green receives accredited buyer's representation designation

     

    Mary Jo Green, with Century 21 Smith Realty Group, has been awarded the Accredited Buyer's Representation designation by the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council of the National Association of Realtors.

    Green successfully completed a comprehensive course in buyer representation and an elective course focusing on a buyer representation specialty, both in addition to submitting documentation verifying professional experience.

    Senate President Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, recently appointed State Sen. Jimmy Higdon, R-Lebanon, to the Human Services and Public Safety Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference. The SLC fosters and encourages intergovernmental cooperation among its 15-member states.

  • Life goes on

    The leading causes of death in the United States are heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory diseases and stroke. Accidents rank fifth on the list.

    Those accidents, however, are deaths caused by unintentional injuries, not by a terrorist incident such as the one that happened Monday, April 15, in Boston.

    The three most common types of accidents that result in death are car wrecks, falls and unintentional poisonings.

    As we walk through life on a daily basis, we, of course, know an accident can happen at any time.

  • Hord is educator of the year

     

    Today is a busy day. They have more standardized tests to take, but first they get some advice from their teacher.

    She tells them to be sure to follow the instructions and always try their best. And after finishing their breakfast, the students will get to business.

    Farrah Hord is in her fourth year teaching fifth-grade reading and language arts at Campbellsville Middle School.

    Her education career spans about 15 years at CMS, also having taught social studies and language arts to seventh- and eighth-graders.

  • Hydrant testing begins

     

    Residents might soon notice changes to the city’s nearly 650 fire hydrants as Campbellsville Fire & Rescue personnel begin work on a project that is expected to continue through the summer and into next year.

    According to Campbellsville Fire & Rescue Chief Kyle Smith, the purpose of the project is twofold.

    “First, it benefits both the fire department and the water department regarding routine maintenance and ensuring that the hydrants are working properly.”
