Four candidates seeking to replace retiring Sheriff John Shipp have now been reduced to two.
In Tuesday's primary election, Democrats chose Allen Newton while Republicans selected Bill Walsh. The two will meet up in the November General Election.
On the Republican ticket, Walsh collected 2,243 votes to Timothy "Sparky" Cash's 1,125. On the Democrat side, Newton had 2,651 to Willard "Hank" Harris' 321.
Newton, 53, a lifelong Taylor County resident, has been chief deputy and detective for the Taylor County Sheriff's Office for the past 17 years.
