  • UPDATETwo die in KY 210 crash

    Two people are dead following a two-vehicle crash on KY 210 at about 2:30 on Wednesday afternoon.

    According to a Taylor County Sheriff's Department report, Eddie A. Propes, 54, of Yosemite was driving a 1998 Isuzu cab and box truck east on KY 210 when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 1994 Peterbilt tractor trailer driven by Timothy L. Alley, 41, of Columbia. Propes' truck caught fire after the collision.

  • Education cuts could affect local schools

    Though the state budget passed by the General Assembly restored a great deal of proposed education funding cuts, local administrators say more funding is needed.

    "It's a little disappointing," said Taylor County Superintendent Gary Seaborne. "We're going to receive less funding. We're still expected to reach proficiency by 2014, but with diminished funding. It is pretty discouraging."

  • Lawsuit against City, Rescue dismissed, settled

    Claims brought by a Lebanon man alleging that two Rescue EMTS injured him have been dismissed by a judge. However, according to an attorney in the case, the man's claims have been settled out of court and will cost the City's insurance carrier $40,000.

    Louisville attorneys Diane Bluhm and Kevin B. Sciantarelli filed a claim on behalf of Alton Turpin in Taylor Circuit Court on Dec. 27, 2005.

  • CKAS presents: 'The Chairs'

    The Central Kentucky Arts Series brought Eugene Ionesco's play "The Chairs" to Campbellsville last week.

    The performance, part of CKAS' "Home Roots Series," brought Campbellsville native John Paul Davenport back to his hometown from Oxford, Miss. Three of Davenports students at Oxford High School performed in Campbellsville University's Theater, a theater Davenport himself performed on several times.

  • Taylor Schools approve drug testing

    This fall, Taylor County students participating in extracurricular activities could be tested for drugs.

    After nearly a full year of discussion and study, Taylor County School Board members approved a random drug testing policy during its regular meeting Tuesday.

    The policy was passed by a 3-1 vote, with Board Chairman Tony Davis casting the lone "No" vote. Board members Bernie Cave, Jim Cheatham and Lillian Clark voted in favor of the policy. Board member Gary Porter was absent.

    "I'm just as confused as I was at the last meeting," Davis said.

  • Man with venomous snakes faces additional charges

    The Campbellsville man facing 25 criminal charges after Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources officers found several venomous snakes and alligators at his home has been arrested and charged with wanton endangerment.

    According to a Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife press release, Freddie Stone, 36, of 552 Mt. Carmel Road was charged after the animals were found Friday, March 28 at 10 a.m. at his Campbellsville home.

  • Police searching for stolen flatbed trailer

    Police are searching for a flatbed trailer stolen from Taylor County High School.

    According to a report filed by Taylor County Sheriff's Deputy Tom Finck, the theft was caught on the school's security video system.

    At 12:51 a.m. on Friday, April 4, someone driving a two-tone Jeep Cherokee backed up to the trailer, which was parked by the Taylor County Band barn. Using bolt cutters, they cut the lock off of the trailer, hitched it to their vehicle and drove away.

  • Supplement recall raises concerns

    Following a federal recall of two dietary supplements, the Kentucky Department for Public Health has issued a health advisory for consumers who may have ingested the products and could be at risk for illness.

    The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has reported that two products of the Total Body Formula dietary supplement line have been recalled due to health concerns: Total Body Formula in the flavors of Tropical Orange and Peach Nectar and Total Body Mega Formula in Orange/Tangerine flavor.

  • Campbellsville man charged in sealed indictment

    A Campbellsville man has been charged with selling cocaine in two indictments recently unsealed by a Taylor Circuit Court judge.

    A grand jury may seal an indictment if there is a possibility that the accused will try to evade police.

    Mitchell L. Strong, 50, of 601 E. First St., Apt. A, was indicted on two counts of first-degree selling cocaine, both second offenses, and two counts of being a second-degree persistent felony offender.

  • One injured in single-car crash

    One person was injured in a single-car crash Thursday night.

    According to a Kentucky State Police report, Robin Raynor, 51, of Campbellsville was traveling east on Spurlington Road in a 1998 Oldsmobile at about 9:08 p.m. when her car struck a guardrail.

    Raynor was treated at Taylor Regional Hospital and later transferred to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of a head injury. Raynor was in stable condition on Friday.

    Kentucky State Trooper David Smith investigated.
