  • Winners of downtown identification game announced

    The winners of the Campbellsville Renaissance/Historic Preservation Commission's "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?" identification game have been announced.

    Catherine Turner Feather and Bettye Kincheloe, both of Campbellsville, correctly identified the buildings shown in nine pictures published in the Central Kentucky News-Journal in May.

  • Renaissance Commission meets tomorrow

    The Campbellsville Renaissance/Historic Preservation Commission will have its regular monthly meeting on at noon tomorrow at the Campbellsville Development Center located at 107 W. Broadway. The meeting is open to the public.

  • Man arrested after chase with police

    A Campbellsville man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly took police on a chase that reached speeds of more than 100 mph.

    Andrew Blake Clark, 20, of 48 Lakeway Drive was arrested Monday, May 26 at about 1 a.m.

    Clark's arrest citation states Taylor County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Dickens observed Clark on KY 55 attempting to do a trick on his Suzuki motorcycle.

    When Dickens attempted to stop Clark, the citation states, Clark fled on his motorcycle.

    The chase reached speeds of more than 110 mph, the citation states, and Clark passed in a no passing zone.

  • Courthouse Square/Streetscape meeting is Thursday

    The public is invited to attend a meeting with architects M2D, formerly known as designWORKS, on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Campbellsville Development Center located at 107 W. Broadway. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the development of the Courthouse Square and Columbia Avenue Streetscape projects.

  • KARE application available next week

    Applications for the Phase I Kentucky Agricultural Relief Effort Cost-Share Program will be available beginning Monday, June 9 at the Taylor County Extension Office. Applications will be accepted through July 9.

    The following are eligible cost-share items available for 50 percent cost-share funding up to a maximum of $1,000.

    - Drilling for subsurface aquifers and well establishments.

    - Developing and piping on farm springs.

    - Construction of small stream water basins.

    - Establishing and enhancing on-farm ponds.

  • Man charged with DUI

    A Campbellsville man has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

    Joshua O. Henderson, 23, of 1784 East Owl Creek was arrested Saturday, May 24 at about 1 a.m.

    According to Henderson's arrest citation, Campbellsville Police Officer Brian Morgan stopped Henderson for speeding on Lebanon Avenue.

    The citation states Henderson smelled of alcohol and later admitted he had been drinking. Henderson failed several field sobriety tests and Morgan found an alcoholic beverage and marijuana in his possession.

  • Lebanon man injured in motorcycle crash

    A Lebanon man was released from University of Louisville Hospital two days after crashing his motorcycle in Campbellsville.

    According to a Campbellsville Police Report, Josh Rowley, 20, was driving his 2006 Suzuki sport bike east on KY 210 when he lost control and struck a guardrail near the entrance to Forest Hills Drive. The crash occurred at 2:50 p.m.

    Rowley was flown from the scene by Air Evac.

    Campbellsville Police Officer Ben Riggs investigated.

  • Two injured in motorcycle collision

    Two people were injured in a motorcycle collision on Saturday on Sportsman Lake Road.

    According to a report filed by Taylor County Sheriff's Deputy Lawrence Walsh, Woodrow Kolin Knox, 42, of Westport Road in Elizabethtown was operating a 1997 Harley Davidson northbound on Sportsman Lake Road at about 1:15 p.m.

    The report states Knox lost control of the motorcycle. Knox and passenger Lorrie Ann Mardis, 38, were transported to Taylor Regional Hospital by Campbellsville/Taylor County Rescue personnel and treated for various cuts and released.

  • Ann's Dance to offer free reading help for local adults

    Beverly Sullivan has clear memories of her childhood, when her mother used to read Janice Holt Giles books to the family. The experience was not only entertaining for Sullivan, it also instilled in her a love of reading and spawned a career in education.

    The fact that some of Kentucky's older residents can't pass along such a tradition disturbs Sullivan.

    Forty percent - 1 million - of Kentucky's working population cannot read at all or have very limited to moderate reading ability.

  • In Memory

    More than 150 people gathered Monday to remember the 64 men whose names are engraved on the Taylor County War Memorial. The Memorial Day service also paid tribute to those who have served and are presently serving our nation as members of the armed services.

    "We're here today to remember those who have given so much for their country," said Campbellsville Mayor Brenda Allen.

    "It's a proud day to gather here to honor the dead," said Bob Rotchi, past ceremony chair. "It's unfortunate that the people on this monument can't be here today to say 'Thank you.'"
