  • Cub Scout Day Camp

    Nearly 40 Cub Scouts from Taylor and Marion counties attended the weeklong "How the West Was Won" Boy Scout day camp at Miller Park last week.

    Scouts participated in a variety of activities including archery, crafts and BB gun safety.

  • Woman charged with assault

    A Campbellsville woman has been arrested and charged with assaulting another person.

    Bessie Callahan, 43, of 30 Feather Creek Road was arrested at 11:51 p.m. Friday, June 13.

    According to Callahan's arrest warrant, she is accused of dragging another person with her vehicle on April 22, causing injuries to the person's face, arm and legs.

    Callahan was charged with second-degree assault, a Class C felony, which is punishable by as much as 10 years in prison. She pleaded not guilty to the charge in Taylor District Court on Monday, June 16.

  • Six indicted on charges of selling stolen property

    A Campbellsville businessman and five other people have been indicted on charges alleging they stole property to sell at a local pawn shop.

    The six were indicted Tuesday by a Taylor County grand jury.

    Indicted were:

    - Barry Burton, 50, of 121 Hunter Trace in Campbellsville.

    - Dustin Cole Burton, 20, also of 121 Hunter Trace in Campbellsville.

    - Christopher Poynter, 33, of 104 Hillview Terrace, Apt. 1, in Greensburg.

    - James Douglas Ewing, 46, of 109 Hillview Terrace, Apt. 9, in Greensburg.

  • Liberty man arrested, charged with sex abuse

    A Liberty man has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.

    Joshua Edward Lee, 24, of 3333 Snake Ridge Road was arrested at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 12.

    According to Lee's arrest citation, Campbellsville Police Officer Travis Begley received a complaint from the 13-year-old's mother alleging that Lee had sexually abused her daughter last December by kissing her and touching her inappropriately.

    Lee was charged with first-degree sexual abuse, a Class D felony, punishable by as much as five years in prison.

  • Woman charged with DUI, resisting arrest

    A Campbellsville woman has been arrested and charged with DUI and resisting arrest after she was allegedly involved in a motor vehicle collision.

    Kristi Dabney Peterson, 43, of 418 S. Central Ave. was arrested at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, June 17.

    According to the arrest citation, Campbellsville Police Officer Jason Simpson responded to a motor vehicle collision with a telephone pole on South Central Avenue at 4 p.m.

  • UPDATECES has new principal

    A new principal will greet Campbellsville Elementary School students, staff and teachers in August.

    David Petett, 28, will officially take the helm July 1, according to CES site-based decision making council chairwoman Lisa Wiseman.

    "We're very excited about having Mr. Petett. We feel he was an excellent choice. He is a great role model for the staff, students and also in the community," Wiseman said.

  • EDA chair briefs court on industrial projects

    Several industrial projects are close to completion, and residents may soon hear an announcement of a new business coming to Taylor County.

    Mark Johnson, chair of the Taylor County Economic Development Authority, told magistrates at last week's regular Fiscal Court meeting that there are several industrial projects close to completion, and several companies have visited and toured Campbellsville multiple times.

    He said several clients have looked at sites in the new Industrial Park and the entrance to the park should be completed soon.

  • Taylor Schools address safety issues

    School officials are looking to curb cell phone usage during the school day while establishing a presence on MySpace during the next school year.

    Taylor County School Board approved a 2008-2009 safe schools plan during its regular meeting last Tuesday.

    The District adopts a safe schools plan each year, which addresses safety precautions for students, staff and visitors. The Kentucky Center for School Safety performs audits of schools.

  • UPDATESuit filed to void moist vote

    Four Campbellsville residents are attempting to reverse May's local option alcohol vote.

    On Wednesday afternoon, Lebanon attorney Rob Spragens filed a petition contesting the local option election on behalf of Don and June Bishop, Russell Burris and Murey G. Finn.

    Taylor County Sheriff John Shipp, Taylor County Clerk Mark Carney, Allen Dudgeon and Phil Allan Bertram, all members of the Taylor County Board of Elections, and Taylor County Judge/Executive Eddie Rogers are named as defendants in the suit.
