  • Woman gets two years on drug, other charges

    A Campbellsville woman has been sentenced to two years in prison for violating the terms of her diversion.

    Robin Lynn Raynor, 52, of 133 Cherwood Drive appeared before Taylor Circuit Court Judge Allan Bertram on Tuesday, June 17.

    In November 2007, Raynor pleaded guilty to possession of drug supplies, her second offense, and menacing. A charge of being a second-degree persistent felony offender was dismissed.

    At that time, Raynor was sentenced to serve 45 days in jail and sentenced to four years' probation.

  • County budget tops $8.9 million

    Taylor County will operate with more money this fiscal year than last.

    The County's 2008-2009 $8.9 million budget was unanimously given final approval by magistrates at a special Fiscal Court meeting Friday afternoon. Magistrates had first reading at the Court's regular May meeting.

    The new budget is about $2.5 million more than last year's.

    It includes $2.8 million to be collected in occupational taxes. According to the budget, about $1.4 million of that revenue will be distributed to the City, pursuant to an agreement that spells out how the money will be used.

  • Campbellsville man accused of assault

    A Campbellsville man has been arrested and charged with assault and other charges after he allegedly broke into another person's home and waited for them to come home.

    Brad D. Shofner, 26, of 106 1/2 W. Walnut St. was arrested at about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 24.

    According to Shofner's arrest citation, he is accused of entering a former girlfriend's home while she wasn't home and waiting for her to come home with her current boyfriend.

  • Man injured after wheelchair struck by vehicle

    A Taylor County man is in stable condition after his wheelchair was struck by a truck Friday morning.

    According to a Taylor County Sheriff's Department report, Herman R. Curry, 63, was operating an electric wheelchair on Christerson Lane when he was struck by a 1993 Chevrolet pickup driven east by John W. McFarland, 77. The collision occurred at 9:45 a.m.

    Curry was transported to Taylor Regional Hospital by Campbellsville/Taylor County Rescue where he was treated for head injures. He was later transported to the University of Louisville Hospital.

  • Local men indicted in Marion County

    Five Campbellsville men were indicted in Marion County court recently. They are:

    - Ciro Alcarez, 25, of 710 High Pine in Campbellsville was indicted on a charge of third-degree rape.

    According to the indictment, Alcarez is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse on six different occasions with another person incapable of consent being younger than 16.

    Alcarez is being held with no bond and was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim or the victim's family.

  • State leads nation in ATV deaths

    Kentucky may be known for horses, bluegrass and bourbon, but in reality it's becoming known for something much deadlier - leading the nation in all-terrain vehicle deaths, according to Dale Dobson, safety administrator with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.

    Twenty-nine people died in Kentucky on ATVs in 2007, Dobson said, and his passion and goal is to reduce that number to zero by teaching people how to safely operate ATVs.

    This past Memorial Day weekend in Kentucky, Dobson said, four people, three of whom were under the age of 16, were killed in ATV accidents.

  • Woman accused of kidnapping

    A Campbellsville woman has been arrested and charged with kidnapping after she allegedly would not let another woman leave her vehicle.

    According to a report filed by Taylor County Sheriff's Deputy Rodney Cox, Deena Richerson, 46, of 906 Reids Chapel Road was arrested at about 4 p.m. Sunday, June 22.

    According to the report, officers from the Campbellsville Police Department and Taylor County Sheriff's Department received a phone call about a woman being held against her will inside a vehicle.
