  • TCES principal leaving for Glasgow job

    When Taylor County Elementary School students head back to the classroom in August, they will be greeted by a new leader.

    TCES Principal Brian Clifford has resigned his post and accepted a principal's position at Austin Tracy Elementary School in Glasgow.

    According to the Glasgow Daily Times, Clifford will replace current principal Scott Harper, who will become director of instruction. Clifford was one of more than 20 candidates for the position.

  • CU Carver School of Social Work and Counseling has pinning ceremony

     

    Campbellsville University's Carver School of Social Work and Counseling had a pinning ceremony on May 4 for its May graduates.

    Campbellsville recipients of the Bachelor of Science Social Work degree were Mary Buis, Lindsey Harris, Sarah Hayes, Jessica Oliver and Hannah Sapp.

    Campbellsville Master of Social Work degree recipients were Deanna Barnes, Ahdazsa Dye, Katie Irwin and Leigh Anne Johnson.

    Sarah Creason of Campbellsville received a Master of Science Counseling degree.

  • TCHS student receives Bluegrass Cellular scholarship

    Kaitlin Mardis from Campbellsville, a Taylor County High School graduate, has been named a recipient of the 2012 Bluegrass Cellular Scholarship.

    Bluegrass Cellular awarded 18 scholarships valued at $1,500 each to students in the company's 40-county service area.

    This is the 11th year Bluegrass Cellular has recognized high school students through its scholarship program.

  • Crusade for Children raises nearly $30,000 locally

     

    This year's Crusade for Children roadblocks collected $29,70 in Taylor County, which volunteers say is about $3,000 more than last year's fundraiser.

    Funds collected will come back to local schools to help fund programs for students with disabilities.

    Volunteers went door-to-door soliciting donations and set up roadblocks. Volunteers went door-to-door to help increase donations.

    Over the three-day collection period on June 1-3, 55 firefighters and EMS personnel and about 50 civilian volunteers participated.

  • One injured in Old Pitman Road crash

     

    A Campbellsville woman was injured Saturday after her motorcycle was struck by a car.
    According to a Taylor County Sheriff’s Office report, Lloyd L. Parrott, 55, of 445 Woodhill Drive in Campbellsville, was traveling north on KY 527. Linda Hayes, 61, of 94 Hunters Trace in Campbellsville, was traveling south.

    As Parrott attempted a left turn onto Old Pitman Road, the report states, he turned his 2006 Saturn into the path of Hayes’ 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

  • Animal shelter could be in new building in July

    Though the details haven’t been ironed out just yet, magistrates are forging ahead with a spay and neuter voucher system at the Taylor County Animal Shelter.

    On Thursday, Taylor County Fiscal Court’s New Projects and Special Services Committee met to discuss the voucher program and the status of the new animal shelter building.

  • Hospital contractors on strike over hiring issues


    With homemade picket signs in tow, the men stand firm.

    Taylor Regional Hospital’s new surgical center should be completed in a few months, according to CEO Jane Wheatley. She says a worker strike at the construction site shouldn’t delay the opening, which is slated for Oct. 8.

    On Monday, several workers with the Wehr Constructors Inc. who belong to a carpenters union group went on strike, demanding that Wehr use all union carpenters.

  • Library hosts wall breaking at new site

     

    “The librarian at the library goes shh, shh, shh,” they sang to the tune of “Wheels on the Bus,” “shh shh shh, shh shh shh.”

    What happened next likely won’t ever be allowed in Taylor County’s public library again.

    Library board members, employees and some children used hammers to take turns breaking down a wall at the building that will soon become the new library.
