  • Board approves school bus purchase

    Campbellsville schools will soon add to its fleet of school buses.

    Board of Education members agreed to buy a new school bus on Monday night for about $92,000.

    On Tuesday, Superintendent Mike Deaton said the district's fleet is aging and it's time to replace the oldest one.

    "Obviously the money was budgeted for not only this year, but in the past couple of years, so that we would not have to finance the purchase of the bus and incur more debt to the district."

  • Resident named Miss Congeniality

     

    Campbellsville resident Rebekah Southwood, a junior at Campbellsville University, represented Public Relations Student Society of America in Campbellsville University's 2013 Valentine Pageant recently.

    Southwood won Miss Congeniality, which is voted on by fellow contestants. CU Student Government Association hosted the pageant.

    "It's good to know that I got an award that the peers voted on, and not a panel of judges," Southwood said.

  • TCHS junior pages for senator

     

    Elijah Myers, a junior at Taylor County High School, served as a page for State Sen. Jimmy Higdon, R-Lebanon, on Feb. 27.

  • TCES names Writers of the Week

     

    Taylor County Elementary School recently announced its Writers of the Week for Feb. 22.

    They are, front, from left, fourth- and fifth-graders Jessie Vance and Jaded Goldsmith.

  • TCES names Good Deed winners

     

    Taylor County Elementary School recently announced its Good Deed winners for the week of Feb. 25.

    They are, from left, Noah Dabney, Isabella Betz, Connor Cook, Connor Wilhoit and Bethany Meece.

  • TCHS band members participate in honor band

     

    Several members of the Taylor County High School band participated in the Western Kentucky University Honor Band on Jan. 24-26.

    The students were able to study under some of the nation's best conductors.

    Students were placed in four different bands based on their individual auditions.

    Students selected for this group were Kristi Sapp, Chelsea Mehegan, Brittany Rose, Sarah Matney, Brianna Handy, Mitchell Tinnell, Jacob Coomer, Henry Smith and Clayton Rule.

    Monday - Scrambled eggs, sausage, baked apples, biscuits and gravy, orange and milk.

    Tuesday - Chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, green beans, fruit smoothies and milk.

    Wednesday - Spaghetti with meat sauce, salad with romaine lettuce, tomato slices, garlic bread, fruit cocktail, banana and milk.

    Thursday - Pepperoni pizza, broccoli with dip, corn, applesauce, Bug Bite cookies and milk.

  • Winners of 'Grandparent of the Year' essay contest announced

     

    Winners of this year's Grandparent of the Year essay contest, sponsored by AARP Kentucky and Kentucky Retired Teachers' Association, were recently announced.

    Lauryn Agathan was selected as Campbellsville Independent School's winner and Autumn Matney was the winner from Taylor County Elementary School and also named the overall county winner.

    Agathan and Matney attended the Taylor County Retired Teachers Association meeting on Feb. 19 at Campbellsville Middle School and read their essays.

  • CMS students caught being good

     

    Campbellsville Middle School students recently received E2 cards after they were caught being good by helping other students, teachers and bus drivers or being exceptionally well behaved.

  • Rotary Club speech winner announced

     

    Samantha Floyd, a senior at Taylor County High School, is this year's winner of the Campbellsville Rotary Club speech contest.

    The win qualifies her to compete at the sectional contest.
