  • Daughter of local residents elected to regional education board

     

    Beth Cox, the daughter of Campbellsville residents Gordon and Betty Jane Gorin-Smith, has recently been appointed to the Southern Regional Education Board.

    Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam made the appointment. Cox's term will run through 2016.

    Cox is serving her second term on the Sumner County Board of Education in Sumner County, Tenn.

    SREB is an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization that works with 16 member states to improve and expand public education opportunities from pre-kindergarten through doctorate studies.

  • TCHS names Students of the Week

     

    Taylor County High School recently announced its Students of the Week for the week of March 11-18.

  • TCES names Good Deed winners

     

    Taylor County Elementary School recently named its Good Deed winners for the Week of March 4.

    They are, from left, Kendall Delk, Brenton Newton, Jeffrey Sprowles, Hayden Dabney and Kaitlin Phillips.

  • Woman's club announces award winners

     

    The General Federation of Women's Clubs' Fourth District Regional Arts & Crafts contest winners were recently announced.

    First place regional winners will advance to the GFWC state contest in April.

    The Campbellsville Woman's Club recently announced its first place winners.

    In the student arts and crafts contest, first place winner from Campbellsville High School is Dayla Scott, for weaving.

  • CES celebrates Dr. Seuss' birthday

     

    Campbellsville Elementary School students celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday on Feb. 25-28 with dress up days and other special events. The dress up days coincided with the reading of Dr. Seuss books.

    Monday was mismatched shoes day. Tuesday was Lorax mustache day. Wednesday was dress like a Who day. Thursday was Yertle the Turtle blue day and Friday was dress like a Seuss character day.

    Students also made Dr. Seuss boxes to display in the library and those who participated were invited to a special party on March 1.

  • CES releases honor roll

    Campbellsville Elementary School has released its honor roll for the third nine-week grading period. Students listed follow.

  • TCMS student elected Beta secretary

     

    Matti Blakeman, the daughter of David and Jill Blakeman and a student at Taylor County Middle School, was recently elected Kentucky's Junior Beta Club Secretary for 2013-2014.

    Blakeman's campaign speech and skit was based on the theme "Don't Be a Despicable Me, Vote for Matti B."

    Blakeman won first place in campaign speech and her "minions" won first place in campaign skit.

  • Homemakers offering scholarship

    Taylor County Extension Homemakers will again offer a college scholarship this year.

    Graduating seniors at Campbellsville and Taylor County high schools are invited to apply for the $750 award.

    In addition to academic, financial and extra-curricular considerations, applicants will be judged on involvement in Family and Consumer Sciences, FCCLA, 4-H and other Family & Consumer Science related courses and activities.

  • Campbellsville schools honor academic achievers

     

    Campbellsville Independent Schools recently announced its academic achievers for March. A boy and a girl from each school are named.

    Averi Perkins is a kindergarten student at CES. She is the daughter of Steven and B.J. Perkins. Her favorite teacher is Lisa Jo Wiseman and art is her favorite subject. She enjoys being on the CES Dance Team. Her future plans are to become a nurse.

    Tuesday - Lasagna, romaine and spinach salad, garlic bread, peach cup and milk.

    Wednesday - Grilled chicken patty, mashed potatoes, green beans, fruit cocktail, banana and milk.

    Thursday - Cheese pizza, cauliflower and carrots with dip, corn, applesauce and milk.

    Friday - Professional development. No school.
