    Taylor County Elementary School recently named its Writers of the Week for the week of Feb. 7.

    They are first-graders Jaxon McCubbin and Jordan Scott and second-grader Jordyn Farmer.

    Taylor County Elementary School recently named its Good Deed winners for the week of Feb. 7.

    They are Emma Pinson, Bradyn Dabney, Nevaeh Kays, Cole McLean and Caden Williams.

  • KCA spelling bee winners advance to regional competition

     

    Kentucky Christian Academy spelling bee winners will move on to a regional spelling bee competition on Friday, Feb. 14, in Leitchfield.

  • TCHS names Students of the Week

     

    Taylor County High School recently announced its Students of the Week for the week of Feb. 10.

    They are freshman David Sloan, sophomore Kristin Harris, junior Taylor Thompson and senior James Bailey.

  • Raffle raises nearly $17,000 for Taylor County Schools

     

    For the second year, Coppock Appliance & Electronics and Q-104/K-Country 105.7 raffled a 70-inch Sharp Quattron television to raise money to benefit students in the Taylor County School District. The raffle raised $16,867.55 to provide iPad devices for students throughout the district.

    Maurice Coppock, owner of Coppock Appliance & Electronics, said the education of students can't be neglected.

  • TCES to host kindergarten registration

    Taylor County Elementary School will have kindergarten registration on Thursday, March 27, and Friday, March 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those who want to enroll should call the school to schedule an appointment at (270) 465-5691.

    Items needed to enroll include two proofs of residence, birth certificate, immunization records, physical, eye exam by a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist, social security card and a dental screening. Custody paperwork is also required, if applicable.

  • Owens elected chair of CU Board of Trustees

    Dr. Joseph Owens of Lexington has been elected as chair of Campbellsville University's Board of Trustees for the third consecutive one-year term, according to an announcement by Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of Campbellsville University.

    Owens, a 1977 alumnus originally from Lebanon, was elected chair at the recent board of trustee meeting. He has served as a member of the board since 2004 and chair since 2012.

    Officers serve one-year terms, and board members serve four years. His board membership will expire Dec. 31, 2016.

  • CES student meets author

     

    Jaclyn Jackson, a first-grade student at Campbellsville Elementary School, met author Dr. Craig T. Friend in Raleigh, N.C., recently.

    Friend is the author of "Kentucke's Frontier" and he signed a copy for Jackson. He is a history professor at North Carolina State University.

    Jackson is in Lisa Mardis' class and is the daughter of Godfrey L. and Chanelle Jackson.

  • Locals named to EKU president's list

    Eastern Kentucky University has announced that 1,248 students, including several from Campbellsville, earned president's list honors for the fall 2013 semester.

    Local students honored include Macayla Denise Bertram, a sophomore psychology major; Russell Taylor Despain, a senior aviation major; Haley McCall Franklin, a freshman pre-athletic training major; Laura Kathryn Hieneman, a junior English Teaching major; and Samantha Paige Rodgers, a junior Spanish major.
