  • TCMS student wins first William Neal creative writing award

     

    Taylor County Middle School student Andrea Woodcox recently received the first ever William Neal Prize for Creative Promise in Literature award.

    The award was founded by author Simon Van Booy to reward a brilliant and talented young person for outstanding creative writing.

    The award, blessed by the Taylor County Board of Education, is expected to raise levels of enthusiasm for creative writing in the school and general community, so that each year more and more students will want their work to be considered for the award.

  • An outing with Cook's Kids

     

    Cook's Kids gathered at Gatti's Pizza recently to meet with Taylor County Schools Superintendent Roger Cook and board chairman Tony Davis.

    Cook's Kids is a program Cook established to provide mentors to children. The program pairs elementary students with high school students.

    The goals of the program are to increase students' self-confidence, provide growth opportunities and reaffirm the importance of education for future success.

  • TCES Writers of the Week win bicycles

     

    Taylor County Elementary School third-grade students Carly Johnson and Camden Anderson recently won bicycles after their names were selected in a drawing.

    Each year, the school places the names of students who were named Writers of the Week throughout the school year into a drawing for a new bicycle.

    Taylor County Elementary School recently named its Writers of the Week for the week of May 16.

    They are, from left, kindergarteners Cole McLean and Chloe King, first-grader Kylee Farmer, second-grader Carter Stewart, third-grader Rebecca Raley and fourth- and fifth-graders Cheyanne Warren, Adam Kehoe and Kyler Beard.

  • Taylor County schools receive donation from Citizens Bank

     

    Mark Johnson, president/CEO of Citizens Bank and Trust Co. in Campbellsville, recently presented Roger Cook, superintendent of Taylor County School District, with a check for $25,000.

    The funds will help the district provide enhanced wireless connectivity and increase the functionality of the more than 800 recently purchased iPads for the district.

  • CES releases honor roll

    Campbellsville Elementary School recently released its final fourth-grade honor roll for the 2012-2013 school year. Students listed follow.

  • Residents graduate SMARTS training

     

    What do an insurance agent, a hairdresser and an Avon representative have in common? The answer is a desire to be a more successful business owner. That's why they enrolled in and graduated from SKED's Entrepreneurial SMARTS training recently.

    Brian Spencer, Rickey L. Greer and Lenora Nalley are among seven entrepreneurs and small business owners who graduated from SKED's Entrepreneurial SMARTS course recently.

  • CHS hosts art and technology fair

     

    Campbellsville High School hosted an art and technology fair for students, staff, parents and the community on Wednesday, May 8.

    The CHS Media Center was filled with art and technology projects that students completed throughout the year.

    Art teacher Rachel Miller and technology teacher Sonya Kessler organized the event.

  • CU students leave classroom for mission trips

    Classes might have ended for most Campbellsville University students, but that doesn't mean all of the students are beginning summer break quite yet.

    Twenty-five students will be attending mission trips, sponsored by the Baptist Campus Ministry, this month and next.

    Trent Creason, campus ministries intern, will lead 10 students to Niamey, Niger, in Africa.
