  • TCHS names Students of the Week

     

    Taylor County High School recently announced its Students of the Week for the week of March 25 through April 8.

  • TCMS names Students of the Week

     

    Taylor County Middle School recently named its Students of the Week for the week of April 8.

  • FFA wins at Lake Cumberland Regional competition

     

    Taylor County FFA competed at the Lake Cumberland Regional competition at Lindsey Wilson College on March 14 and took home several awards.

    About 30 members competed in impromptu speeches, extemporaneous speaking, prepared public speaking, parliamentary procedure and talent.

    About 10 members placed in the top three of their respected areas and more than 15 received a superior rating.

    Samantha Buckman placed superior second in prepared public speaking.

    Winnie Cheuvront placed superior third in extemporaneous speaking.

    Monday - Hot dog on bun, potato wedges, peas and carrots, mandarin oranges, apple and milk.

    Tuesday - Lasagna, romaine and spinach salad, garlic bread, peach cup and milk.

    Wednesday - Grilled chicken patty, mashed potatoes, green beans, fruit cocktail, banana and milk.

    Thursday - Cheese pizza, cauliflower and carrots with dip, corn, applesauce and milk.

  • Students get dose of Reality

     

    Eighth-grade students at Campbellsville and Taylor County middle schools recently got a dose of reality.

    The students attended Reality Town, a project where students select careers, have a monthly income and try to balance their checkbook account while stopping at booths to pay their monthly bills and unexpected expenses.

    The goal of the experience is to show the students good money managing skills.

    CMS hosted Reality Town this year.

  • Myers visits state capitol

     

    Campbellsville resident Elijah Myers, at left, recently visited the state capitol during this year's General Assembly session and met with State Sen. Jimmy Higdon, R-Lebanon.

  • School board approves district improvement plan

    Taylor County Assistant Superintendent Susan Kilby presented the district improvement plan to Taylor County School Board members at its regular meeting last Tuesday.

    Kilby said the Kentucky Department of Education has implemented some major changes in how the improvement plan must be drafted, which made the process more complicated and time-consuming in years past.

    "This had to be completed by Feb. 1 and in the system, and then in March, they had a meeting to tell us how to do it," Kilby said.

  • CES names prince, princess and king, queen

     

    Campbellsville Elementary School recently announced the winners of this year's prince and princess and king and queen contest, sponsored by the school's PTA group.

    King and queen were named on March 18. They are Brandon Nelson and Emily Hayden. Brandon is the son of LaTesha Pickett and Brian Nelson. Emily is the daughter of George and Mary Hayden. Runners up were Ethan Goodson and Hayley Wethington. Ethan is the son of Chris and Jackie Goodson. Hayley is the daughter of James and Carla Wethington.

  • CU hosts hymn festival

     

    Campbellsville University recently hosted the Central Kentucky Keyboard Hymn Festival for the second time since its inauguration last year.

    Participating students represented eight surrounding counties, including Taylor, Green, Adair, Hardin, Nelson, LaRue, Hart and Metcalfe, in piano and organ categories.

    Dr. Wes Golightly, a piano instructor at Kentucky Christian University; Diana Aubrey, independent music teacher from Hodgenville; and Dr. William Budai, a piano instructor at CU, were the adjudicators.

  • Incredible 'sinking' trees

     

    Taylor County Junior Conservation Board partnered with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife to sink live Christmas trees at Green River Lake State Park on Feb. 8. The trees were recycled for use as a natural fish habitat.

    Members of the Junior Conservation Board who volunteered for this project were Mason Arnold, Winnie Cheuvront, Rebekah Cowherd, Dwight Purvis and Isaac Thompson.

    Taylor County Conservation District Technician Mary Newcome and KDFW Fisheries Manager Eric Cummins helped the junior board members.
