  • Locals earn honors at Lindsey Wilson College

    Thirteen Taylor County residents have earned academic honors for the 2007 fall semester at Lindsey Wilson College. One student has been named to the president's list and 12 students have been named to the dean's list.

    Named to the president's list is Valerie Murphy, a human services and counseling sophomore from Campbellsville.

    Students named to the president's list are enrolled in at least 12 hours of classes and earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

  • Local student named to Transy dean's list

    Transylvania University junior Brooke Bell has been named to the dean's list for the 2007 fall term.

    To be named to the dean's list, a student must achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average during the term.

    Bell, a political science major, is the daughter of Randall and Sharon Bell of Campbellsville.

  • Wilgus receives tenured faculty award

    Dr. Mary Wilgus, professor of history and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, received the Tenured Faculty Award recently at Campbellsville University.

    Wilgus has served Campbellsville University since 1997 as chair of the Social Science Division and professor of history. In 2001, she was appointed as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. During the same year, she was named Woman of the Year at the annual Business and Professional Women's breakfast. She has also been the recipient of CU's Student Government Association Challenger Award.

  • LYNC announces new nurse aide grads

    Campbellsville LYNC has announced its newest certified nurse aide graduates - Tiffany Bragg, Ashley Harris, Sarah Hubbard and Kathy Weddle.

    The four have started the new year as members of the growing health care profession. Harris also earned her GED.

    Since its inception, the LYNC program has graduated more than 200 certified nurse aides. Campbellsville LYNC services Adair, Casey, Green and Taylor counties.

  • Kentucky 'Teacher of the Year' award nominations open

    Nominations for the Kentucky 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year are being accepted through April 30.

    The announcement came from the TOTY Award sponsor, Teachers' Insurance Plan, a car insurance program exclusively for members of the educational community.

    The award will include $1,000 to the winning teacher and a $500 grant to that teacher's school. The Kentucky TOTY Award winner will also be eligible for the National TOTY Award that includes a special recognition and a $2,500 travel certificate.

  • Dial earns reading medal

    Madison Dial was recently honored at a celebration assembly at Campbellsville Elementary School with a reading medal. She earned 100 Accelerated Reader points.

    Dial is a second grader in Karen Skaggs' classroom at CES.

  • TCES Writers of the Week

    Taylor County Elementary School's "Writers of the Week" for the week of Jan. 9 are as follows: Raegan Mardis, kindergarten; Manda Benningfield, first grade; Peyton Cox, second grade; Brenton Benningfield, third grade; Chase Carney, fourth grade; and John Moore, fifth grade.

  • Netherland earns math medal

    Samantha Netherland was awarded a math medal during a recent assembly at Campbellsville Elementary School.

    Netherland, a fourth grader, earned the medal by completing 80 division problems in less than two minutes.

  • Exercising their rights

    Taylor County Elementary's Junior Beta Club members got first-hand experience in the voting process recently when they elected new officers.

    Made up of fifth graders, Junior Beta Club members were given the opportunity to run for office. Each student was required to apply for candidacy. The application included teacher recommendations. A total of 19 students ran for three offices - president, vice president and secretary.

    The students were given one week to campaign.
