  • Reading from the Rooftop

     

    During the month of February, Taylor County Elementary School Librarian Gail Pippin challenged TCES students to read 400,000 minutes in conjunction with the "Read Across America" campaign.

    TCES Principal Brian Clifford promised to climb onto the roof of the school on Thursday, March 17 if the challenge was met. The students read a total of 419,835 minutes in a two-and-a-half-week period, so Clifford read aloud to students from the TCES rooftop to fulfill his promise.

  • CU hires new business professor

    Dr. William "Bill" Adams of Lebanon has been hired at Campbellsville University as an assistant professor of business, according to an announcement from Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of Campbellsville University.

    Adams has served at CU since 2007 as an adjunct instructor.

  • Taylor County residents compete in SkillsUSA competition

    Elizabethtown Community and Technical College will send 35 students to compete in the Kentucky State SkillsUSA competition for students in technical programs.

    The 35 students were medal winners in the postsecondary category at the regional SkillsUSA competition at ECTC on March 4.

    About 200 students, including high school students from seven counties, competed in the regional competition.

  • Board adopts 2011-2012 school calendar

    Though state approval is pending, Taylor County Schools' 2011-2012 calendar has been set.

    School Board members approved the calendar at Tuesday night's regular meeting. Because the calendar includes early-release Fridays, it is considered an alternative calendar and must have KDE approval.

    The first day for students is set for Aug. 3, while the last day would be May 17.

    Tuesday - Tacos, tortilla chips, lettuce, tomato, cheese, Spanish rice, sherbet and milk.

    Wednesday - Bacon cheeseburger, French fries, pickles, onions, peaches, Chips Ahoy cookie and milk.

    Thursday - Scrambled eggs, sausage patty, cinnamon apples, biscuits with gravy and milk.

    Friday - Chili crispitos, refried beans, nachos with salsa, fruit and milk.

  • TCES names Writers of the Week

     

    Taylor County Elementary School recently announced its Writers of the Week for March 4. They are kindergartner Destiny Rafferty, first grader Sophie McAnelly, second grader Hannah Burris, third grader Jacob Ewing and fourth grader Lauren Phillips.

    Taylor County High School recently named its Students of the Week for March 1-4. From left, they are senior Ellie McKinley, junior Gabby Keene, sophomore Jackie Wicker and freshman Zoe Lockard.
