  • KCS offering new program for 3-year-olds

    Kentucky Christian School has added a program for 3-year-olds to its elementary school lineup for the 2008-2009 school year.

    "Sonbeams" will attend classes three days per week, with optional half-day or whole-day classes. The teacher, Georgietta Johnson, is a certified teacher with 32 years' experience in early childhood education.

  • City Schools name Academic Achievers

    Campbellsville Independent Schools recently announced its Academic Achievers for the month of April. Two students from each school are honored.

    Jaylah Tucker is a first-grade student at CES. She is the granddaughter of Wanda Tucker. She enjoys playing football, basketball and soccer. Her favorite teacher is Laura Dicken, and reading is her favorite subject. Her future plans are to become a teacher.

  • 'One Class at a Time'

    A Campbellsville teacher has been honored by WBKO television station and Leachman Buick GMC for teaching her students the value of reading.

    Karen Skaggs, a second-grade teacher at Campbellsville Elementary School, was surprised in her classroom in March by WBKO reporter Lauren Hanson.

    Just after 1 o'clock that afternoon, Hanson and a news crew walked into Skaggs' classroom and presented her with a check in the amount of $500 for her efforts in motivating her students.

    As of the broadcast's airing, the second graders in Skaggs' class had read more than 4,000 books.

  • TCHS Council accepting parent nominations

    Taylor County High School PTSO is accepting nominations for site-based decision making parent council members for the 2008-2009 school year.

    TCHS parents may pick up a nomination form in the front office at Taylor County High School from April 28 through May 9.

    The qualifications for a SBDM parent council member are being a parent, step-parent or foster parent of a student enrolled in the school during the parent's term of council service.

  • Tebbs Bend Historians bring home state awards

    The Tebb's Bend Historians recently attended the annual Kentucky Junior Historical Society convention in Frankfort. The club brought home many awards from the competitions.

    One club member, Mary Tress Eastham, was elected as state junior representative. The awards for the club are:

    First place - Sarah Januski, Division II 2D art and research paper; Sierra Hall, Division I test and photo essay; Savhanna Pearson, Division II speech; Carrie Mason, Andrea Nolley and Megan Dudley, Division III performance (awarded after an error in score reporting).

  • FCCLA members attend leadership conference

    Nine members of the Taylor County Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America attended the 63rd annual FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Louisville on March 24-26.

    The three-day meeting was packed with keynote speakers, meetings and fun.

    At the state level, six members competed in STAR Events - Students Taking Action for Recognition.

  • Local students at CU receive more than $6.5 million in financial aid

    As high school students around the country begin the search for their college of choice, their parents are wondering how that education is going to be paid for.

    Financial records show that Campbellsville University students from Taylor County received $6,584,386 in financial aid this year, according to Chris Tolson, director of financial aid at CU.

    That figure includes institutional financial aid, endowed scholarships, state and federal financial aid, grants and student loans.

  • Kentucky 4-H Teen Conference

    The theme for the 2008 Kentucky 4-H Teen Conference focuses on the galaxy of stars that we have right here in Kentucky - 4-H Stars.

    The conference will take place at the University of Kentucky on June 9-12 and is open to all 4-H'ers who have graduated eighth grade through age 18.

    The conference will kick off picnic style with inflatable slides and obstacle courses to welcome youth to UK.

  • Registration deadline for next ACT exam is May 9

    The next ACT test administration for college-hopeful high school students is Saturday, June 14.

    Students who wish to take the exam on this date must register online or have their paper registrations postmarked by the end of the day May 9. The late registration postmark deadline is May 23. An additional $19 fee is required for late registration after May 9.

  • Bethel Christian Academy enrolling students for fall

    Bethel Christian Academy is now enrolling students for the 2008-2009 school year.

    Bethel Christian Academy offers a faith-based academic program for children from age 2 1/2 to 5 years.
