  • Chinese New Year Celebration

     

    They line the hallway.

    Eighty-eight Taylor County Elementary School kindergartners wearing masks and carrying lanterns made of construction paper.

    Kindergartners celebrated the Chinese New Year last week. In addition to the parade, the students also tasted Chinese food.

    Teacher Shelly Young said it was all a part of a study about Chinese culture.

    Tuesday - Tacos, tortilla chips, lettuce, tomato, cheese, Spanish rice, sherbet and milk. Choice: Corn dog.

    Wednesday - Corn dog, macaroni and cheese, pinto beans and cornbread, peaches and milk. Choice: pork chop.

    Thursday - Sausage patty, scrambled eggs, baked apples, biscuits with gravy and milk. Choice: chicken fried steak.

  • Elk Horn resident earns degree at University of the Cumberlands

    University of the Cumberlands has announced that Holly Deanna Wood of Elk Horn was among the 201 January graduates who completed degrees during the fall semester of the 2010-2011 academic year.

    Wood graduated with a master of arts in education degree.

  • TCHS students demonstrate automotive technology skills

     

    Taylor County High School students Aaron Bland, Anthony Sapp and Brandon Carter demonstrate their automotive technology skills last Thursday at the Green County Area Technology Center during the school's technology week open house. The school, which is also attended by Campbellsville High School students, offered public tours all week to showcase its programs and students' accomplishments.

  • TCES names Writers of the Week

     

    Taylor County Elementary School recently announced its Writers of the Week for Feb. 4. They are kindergartner Emily Clark, first grader Mercedes Clifton, second grader Collin White, third grader Mariah Oliver, fourth grader Sydney LaBoyteaux and fifth grader Kyah Neal.

  • Board discusses contingency fund

    Taylor County School District may have a funding contingency five times larger than required by the state, but that could quickly change, according to Superintendent Roger Cook.

    Because there has been talk at the state level of dipping into school contingency funds to solve budget problems, the Kentucky School Board Association is asking school boards to discuss the importance of having contingencies and that those discussions be reflected in meeting minutes.
