  • CU presents annual 'Excellence in Teaching' awards

    Campbellsville University awarded Excellence in Teaching Awards to 137 educators from across Kentucky during the 22nd annual awards program Saturday, May 17, in the Winters Dining Hall of the E. Bruce Heilman Student Complex on the Campbellsville University campus.

    The Excellence in Teaching Awards program is in partnership with Lexington's CBS-affiliate, WKYT-TV.

    Dr. Frank Cheatham, vice president for academic affairs at CU, addressed the teachers and guests from public and private school systems from 52 Kentucky school districts.

  • Taylor County 4-H well represented at Area Showcase

    Taylor County 4-H was well represented at the recent Lake Cumberland Area Showcase of Stars.

    This event is a competition for 4-H'ers who have won county contests in Demonstration, Talk Meet and Variety Show this year. Taylor County had nine talented 4-H'ers competing.

    Reagan Pollock was named reserve champion of the 9-year-old Talk Meet Division.

    Justice Gregory was named champion of the 10-year-old Talk Meet Division.

    Shelby Barnett was named champion in the 11-year-old Talk Meet Division.

  • Cardinal Kroger gold-certified for sixth year

    For the past six consecutive years, Taylor County High School's School-Based Enterprise Cardinal Kroger has received the Gold-Level Certification awarded by DECA Inc.

    Cardinal Kroger has been a partnership with the Kroger Corp. for the past 13 years. With the help of manager Danna Simpson and co-managers Amanda Bennett and Patty Raley of the Green River Plaza Kroger store and district manager Tim Payne, Cardinal Kroger has again reached the Gold-Level Certification, the highest certification possible.

  • CHS technology project one of 34 'Best in State'

    Campbellsville High School Student Technology Leadership Program members DJ Foley, Alex Quinn and Jason Rainwater had one of the 35 Best of State projects at the STLP State Showcase Competition on May 6-7 in Lexington.

    More than 3,500 students from across Kentucky competed in the Student Technology Leadership Program State Showcase Competition.

  • CMS awarded funds for environmental education

    Central Kentucky PRIDE and the Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet recently awarded a 2008 Environmental Education Grant to Campbellsville Middle School.

    The funds will be used to enhance an existing outdoor classroom, trail development, creek restoration and the installation of hand rails along an existing bridge.

    PRIDE and the Cabinet awarded 11 grants throughout the Second Congressional District. PRIDE promotes environmental projects throughout the District.

  • State Capitol Visit

    Taylor County Elementary School fourth grade students visited Frankfort on May 13. They toured the State Capitol and received souvenir packets on behalf of State Rep. Russ Mobley.

  • Haley earns Giles award

    Meredith Blaine Haley received the Janice Holt Giles Book Award at Campbellsville High School.

    Haley was selected for this honor by her English teacher and guidance counselor Mitzi Coyle.

    She was chosen for the award because she, above all other females in the junior class, is adept at writing, has an interest in literature, is a critical thinker, has an interest in Kentucky history and geography, is planning to further her education and is a valuable member of her community.

  • Cox earns National Merit Scholarship, other honors

    Ben Taylor Cox of Campbellsville was among the more than 2,800 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities announced recently by National Merit Scholarship Corp.

    A Taylor County High School graduate, Cox earned the National Merit University of Kentucky Scholarship. He is planning a career in medicine.

    Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among finalists in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution.
