  • TCES names Good Deed winners

     

    Taylor County Elementary School recently announced its Good Deed winners for the week of Feb. 16. They are Samantha Johnson, Makayla Wright, Kyle Chappell, Conner Roney and Jayden Usrey.

    Taylor County Elementary School recently named its Writers of the Week for Feb. 11. They are, from left, kindergartner Annie Shipp, first grader Grant Cash, third grader Matthew Speer, fourth grader Sami Mackie and fifth grader Kaily Witham.

  • Applications accepted through March 4 for Rogers Explorers program

    Eighth-grade students seeking to develop skills in leadership, science, math and community service can build all of those skills and more - all in a college environment - at The Center for Rural Development's Rogers Explorers youth program this summer.

    The Center is accepting applications through Friday, March 4 from current eighth-grade students throughout its 42-county primary service area.

  • Smith graduates from Morehead State University

    Gerald Smith of Campbellsville graduated from Morehead State University with a bachelor of university studies degree during the 2010 winter commencement ceremony.

  • TCES kindergarten registration is March 14-18

    Taylor County Elementary School will have kindergarten registration March 14-18.

    Those registering should bring proof of residence, a birth certificate from the state vital statistics office, Social Security card, proof of physical, an eye exam from a licensed ophthalmologist or optometrist, dental screening and immunization as well as custody papers, if applicable.

    Those attending should call 465-5691 for an appointment.

  • Local students named to UK dean's list

    A record number of students were named to the University of Kentucky dean's list for the fall 2010 semester, including many from Taylor County.

    A total of 5,030 students were recognized for their academic performance. This is the first time the UK dean's list has topped 5,000.

    To make a dean's list in one of the UK colleges, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher and must have earned 12 credits or more in that semester, excluding credits earned in pass-fail classes. Some UK colleges require a 3.5 GPA to make the list.

  • Willis pledges Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority

    Miranda Willis of Campbellsville, a freshman at Centre College, has pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

    The Centre Greek community consists of eight national and international organizations - four fraternities and four sororities - dedicated to the ideals of brotherhood, sisterhood, leadership, scholastic achievement, community service and social interaction.

  • TCHS class is 'up in the air'

     

    A group of students at Taylor County High School are preparing to take to the skies.

    Last Thursday, Deborah Hinton's aviation class began building a radio-controlled airplane, which will be used in a University of Kentucky-sponsored competition in May.
