  • KCS students take year-end trip

    Kentucky Christian School's fourth- and fifth-grade classes took a three-day trip to Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio. The trip included visits to the Creation Museum & Planetarium, The Freedom Museum, Newport on the Levee and Kings Island.

  • CU students recognized during annual honors, awards day

    "Today is one of those highlight days of the year in which we get to celebrate excellence in education and accomplishments," said Campbellsville University President Dr. Michael V. Carter as he announced this year's distinguished students during the annual Honors and Awards Day chapel program April 30.

    Numerous students received awards and were given plaques, money, books and other gifts at the annual in Campbellsville University's Ransdell Chapel.

  • Budget forces County schools to issue 33 non-renewal letters

    Budgets were the major topics of conversation at the Taylor County Board of Education's regular meeting Tuesday night.

    Superintendent Gary Seaborne provided a list of District staff members who have received letters of non-renewal. In all, 33 classified and certified staff members from all three schools and the District office received the letters.

    "This is due to the budget only," Seaborne said. "These are good people and we would like to bring them all back."

    That's always a possibility, he said, if finances improve.

  • Richerson earns Head Start scholarship

    Former Taylor County Head Start student Steven Richerson was recently awarded the Lake Cumberland Head Start Program's "Kentucky Head Start Memorial Scholarship Award."

    Richerson was also chosen for this award at the state level.

    This presentation took place in April at the Kentucky Head Start Association Spring Conference at the Executive West Hotel in Louisville.

    Richerson is the son of Glen and Linda Richerson of Campbellsville.

  • Teens get 'real life' drunken driving experience

    This is not your mother's driver's ed class.

    The latest effort in convincing teens about the dangers of drunken driving is with the use of fatal vision goggles and a small motorized car - similar to a golf cart.

    "When you're dealing with young people, it's as many different ways as you can to get the message across," said Mike Thomas, driver's education teacher at Taylor County High School.

  • City Schools to offer Summer Food Service Program

    Campbellsville Independent School District is once again participating in the Kentucky Summer Food Service Program.

    All meals are free to children under the age of 19.

    Meals will be served in the Campbellsville Middle School cafeteria on Monday through Friday, June 2-27. Breakfast will be from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m., and lunch will be from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

    Adult meals will be available for breakfast, $1.25; and lunch, $2.50.

    The cafeteria can also arrange meals for groups of children attending church activities, camps or nonprofit community programs.

  • Council seeking parent representative

    Campbellsville High School is seeking parent representatives for its 2008-2009 site-based decision making council.

    Nominations for parent representatives for the council are currently being accepted at the high school any school day from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    Voting will take place at CHS on Wednesday, May 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the high school.

  • Evans creates ag service event

    About 40 students from the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture recently participated in the first Ag 180: Turning Students into Leaders through Service.

    Samuel Evans of Taylor County, a student government senator for the UK College of Agriculture, said he created the service event to compliment the Ag Bash, which draws many agriculture students out each fall.

    "This is definitely one of the coolest things I've ever done - organize this event from the ground up," said Evans, an agriculture education junior.
