Allie Romines of Taylor County was one of 30 rising high school juniors from southern and eastern Kentucky to graduate from Rogers Scholars, a youth leadership program, in July.

Romines, a student at Taylor County High School, attended the second session of Rogers Scholars during the week of July 6-11 at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset. She graduated from the program on July 11 and will be eligible to apply for college scholarships from 13 participating colleges and universities.

Romines is the daughter of Robert and Pam Romines of Campbellsville.

Amanda M. Smith of Campbellsville has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Smith will be honored during an induction convocation this fall on the campus of Western Kentucky University.

"NSCS is more than just a symbol of academic achievement. Membership gives students access to a number of amazing benefits including career and networking resources, scholarships, travel and service projects both on campus and in the community," said Stephen E. Loflin, NSCS executive director.

Campbellsville University

Campbellsville University is offering a minor in homeland security beginning this fall - making CU the only private college in Kentucky offering such a minor.

According to Dr. Frank Cheatham, vice president for academic affairs at CU, homeland security has become a critical part of many organizations, employers and college course offerings.

"We are proud to offer this minor in homeland security," Cheatham said, "and hope students take a great interest in serving their fellow man as a result of these studies."

The admission price for home games at Campbellsville Independent Schools is increasing. However, middle and high school students won't have to pay at all to attend games at their respective schools.

Campbellsville Board members approved an increase in the admission price for ball games to $5 at their regular monthly meeting last week. Superintendent Diane Woods-Ayers was out of town and Director of Pupil Personnel Kent Settle presided over the meeting in her absence.
