  • TCES names Writers of the Week

     

    Taylor County Elementary School recently named its Writers of the Week for the week of Feb. 8.

    They are, from left, kindergartener Maddox Smith, first-grader Lily Burress, second-grader Ethan Clark, third-grader Camden Anderson and fourth- and fifth-graders Jaylin Cox and Haley Nunn.

  • Wise named Super Eagle at CES

     

    Ellie Wise recently received the Super Eagle award at Campbellsville Elementary School.

    The award is given to a student who demonstrates exemplary behavior and citizenship.

  • Board votes to raise dropout age to 18

    The Taylor County School Board voted unanimously to raise the dropout age from 16 to 18 at its regular meeting last Tuesday.

    "To be honest with you," Superintendent Roger Cook said, "It's a no-brainer and not an issue for us because we never have dropouts anyway. I won't let them drop out."

    Cook said he disagrees with superintendents who call raising the dropout age an unfunded mandate.

  • Four local young adults named to state fair councils

    Thirty-five youth, including four from Taylor County, have been selected to serve on the 2013 Kentucky State Fair Young Adult Project Advisory Council.

    It is the largest council named since the program began in 2009, and the youth represent 30 high schools and colleges in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

    Campbellsville Elementary School recently named kindergarten through second-grade Students of the Week.

  • CES names Students of the Week

  • Taylor County Conservation District offering scholarships

    Taylor County Conservation District is offering several scholarships.

    Two $500 scholarships are available for high school seniors majoring in agriculture or natural resources. Applicants must compose a 200- to 300-word essay describing "Why Conservation is Important to Me."

    Two letters of recommendation, a recent transcript and the essay are required to enter.

    The district is also offering three $1,000 annual scholarships, offered through the Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts auxiliary.

  • Overgaauw graduates from EKU

    Eastern Kentucky University recognized 1,068 graduates at the conclusion of its fall 2012 semester, including Margaret Katrina Overgaauw of Campbellsville.

    Overgaauw graduated with a bachelor of science degree in psychology and was recognized at commencement ceremonies Dec. 15.

    The new degree holders join more than 137,000 Eastern alumni in Kentucky and across the United States and world.

  • Wigginton named to dean's list at Centre College

    Hope Wigginton of Campbellsville has been named to the dean's list for the fall term at Centre College, an honor reserved for students who maintain at least a 3.6 grade point average.

    Wigginton is the daughter of Scott and Elizabeth Wigginton of Campbellsville and is a graduate of Taylor County High School.

  • CU students attend presidential inauguration

    January 2013 will mark a month that many Campbellsville University students will remember for a long time.

    CU made it possible for three groups of students to attend President Barack Obama's second inauguration ceremony.

    Students attending were from three university clubs, including Phi Alpha Theta history honor society, the Sociology Club and the Political Science Club.
