  • CES names Super Eagle recipient

     

    Jasmine Mitchell was a recent recipient of Campbellsville Elementary School's Super Eagle Award.

    The honor is given to students who exhibit positive behavior, good citizenship and a willingness to do their best to achieve academic success.

  • CU hires assistant professor of linguistics

    Dr. Jihyun Nam, a native of South Korea, has been employed at Campbellsville University as assistant professor of linguistics, according to an announcement from Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of CU.

    Nam is a 1990 graduate of Suseong High School in South Korea.

    He recently defended his doctorate dissertation with Indiana University Bloomington.

    Dr. Tami Cloherty has been employed at Campbellsville University as assistant professor of biology, according to an announcement from Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of CU.

    Cloherty earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Smith College in Northampton, Mass. in 1992 and went on to complete a master of arts for teaching at Manhattanville College in New York in 1997.

  • Locals named to ECTC dean's, president's honors lists

    Elizabethtown Community and Technical College has announced the names of students who made the dean's and president's honor lists for fall 2012 semester.

    The president's list recognizes academic excellence in students who achieve a minimum of a 4.0 grade point average overall for the semester.

    Those from Taylor County who are named to the president's list include Charles Anthony Arnold, Brittany Marie Bogard, Dalton V. Hicks, Stacie Leeanne Lay, Woodie D. Marcum, David G. Moore, Jennifer Renee Nottingham, Whitney Sharday Webster and Jacob Noel.

  • Taylor County Conservation District offering scholarships

    Thee Taylor County Conservation District is offering two $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors majoring in agriculture or natural resources.

    Applicants must compose a 200- to 300-word essay describing, "Why Conservation is Important to Me."

    Two letters of recommendation, a most recent transcript and the essay are required to be submitted along with an application.

    Deadline for submission is Friday, March 22.

    The conservation office is located at 1105 S. Columbia Ave. in Campbellsville. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • CCCFE accepting applications

    Campbellsville Christian Church Center for Education is currently taking registration applications for the 2013-2014 school year.

    Classes include kindergarten for 5-year-olds, pre-kindergarten for 4-year-olds and glow worms for 3-year-olds.

  • Student with local ties named to Pensacola Christian College dean's list

    Rebecca Jeanne Armstrong has been named to the dean's list at Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Fla., for the 2012 fall semester. Students named to the list have a B average or higher.

    Armstrong is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Armstrong of Woodbridge, Va., and the granddaughter of Pat McCauley of Campbellsville.

  • Beta clubs named state champs

     

    Taylor County elementary and middle schools' Beta clubs racked up awards at this year's Kentucky Junior Beta Convention.

    TCES won first place in the Songfest competition, TCES student Raegan Mardis won second place in the black and white photo category and Emma Sadler won third place in the color photo category.

    TCMS won first place for talent, campaign skit and candidate speech.

    TCMS student Matti Blakeman was elected State Junior Beta secretary and TCMS student Shawn Park won second place in the oil pastel category.

  • Deadline to apply for summer youth leadership program is March 4

    The Center for Rural Development is accepting applications through March 4 from eighth-grade middle school students in Taylor County interested in developing their skills in math, science and technology this summer at the 2013 Rogers Explorers youth leadership program.

    The program, which is three days and two nights on a college campus, provides hands-on learning experiences in these in-demand career fields and builds leadership skills, all while students get to see what it is like to live and study at a leading Kentucky college or university.
