  • Taylor Regional Hospital names winter 2011 ambassador

     

    Ellyn Davis has been named the Taylor Regional Hospital Ambassador for Winter 2011. The following was written about Davis on her nomination forms.

    "Ellyn recently helped a family who had a loved one in our hospital. She bought them breakfast because they didn't have any money. She made sure they had two guest trays sent to their room with every meal. The entire time this family was in our hospital, Ellyn made it her mission to check on them daily and make sure they had everything they needed."

  • Ford joins House of Beauty

     

    Robin Ford has joined House of Beauty Salon located at 434 Woodlawn Ave. in Campbellsville.

    Ford has seven years' experience as a cosmetologist and specializes in relaxers, color, haircuts, updo's, braids, roller sets and men's hair cuts. She is a graduate of The Hair Design School.

    Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and every other Saturday by appointment only.

  • Dates for CRP general signup announced

    General signup for the Conservation Reserve Program will begin on March 14 and continue through April 15.

    During the signup period, farmers and ranchers may offer eligible land for CRP's competitive general signup at their county Farm Service Agency office.

  • Mills joins CKNJ

     

    Melvin Mills has joined the Central Kentucky News-Journal as a part-time driver.

    A graduate of Campbellsville High School, Mills retired from the Campbellsville Water Co. after 23 years of service. He is an associate pastor at First Baptist Church in Campbellsville.

    Mills and his wife Wanda have a daughter, DeAusha, and a granddaughter, Pavarti.

    "I look forward to serving the people throughout this community," Mills said.

  • Conservation District cost share program announced

     

    The Taylor County Conservation District will be accepting requests for cost share funding under the Kentucky Soil Erosion and Water Quality Cost Share and Environmental Stewardship Program through Feb. 28.

    The Kentucky Soil Erosion and Water Quality Cost Share Program and the Environmental Stewardship Program are created to help agricultural operations protect the soil and water resources of Kentucky.

  • TRH hosts art display

     

    Taylor Regional Hospital's Cancer Center displayed artwork as part of an Oncology on Canvas competition last week. Oncology on Canvas honors the journeys people face when confronted with a cancer diagnosis. The biennial competition is open to anyone diagnosed with cancer, their families, friends, caregivers and health care providers. Winners are selected by an independent panel of judges, typically past winners, cancer survivors, oncologists and others.

  • Piracha named to Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure

     

    Dr. Asim Piracha has been named to the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure. Piracha was appointed by Gov. Steve Beshear to a four-year term on the board.

    Piracha is a partner at John-Kenyon American Eye Institute and sees patients at Patterson Eye Care in Campbellsville.

    The Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure is responsible for protecting the public by ensuring that only qualified medical and osteopathic physicians are licensed and initiating appropriate disciplinary action when violations of the Medical Practice Act occur.

  • Reynolds wins yield award

     

    Mike Reynolds won the Division II (Double-Crop) first place State Yield Award (Yield, 72.35 Bu/A) for Reynolds Farm of Taylor County in the 2010 Kentucky Extension Soybean Production Contest recently. The award was presented at the 2011 Kentucky Commodity Conference awards banquet on Friday, Jan. 21 at the University Plaza Holiday Inn in Bowling Green. This yield set the new state record for double-crop soybeans.

  • Fugate named Center for Rural Development Executive VP/COO

     

    President and CEO Lonnie Lawson of The Center for Rural Development has announced that Les Fugate has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer at The Center.

    Fugate, originally from Prestonsburg and most recently of Louisville, comes to The Center after spending seven years as deputy assistant secretary of state in the office of former Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson. Grayson recently resigned the post to take a position with the Institute of Politics at Harvard University.

  • Campbellsville native practicing dentistry in Tennessee

    On Thursday morning, Jan. 6, Aspen Dental opened with the ribbon cutting of its Morristown, Tenn. location off Davy Crockett Parkway. In what once was a Blockbuster, Aspen Dental is beginning to clean teeth and become a part of the community.

    Aspen Dental is a national chain with nine offices in Tennessee alone. The company adds from 50 to 60 locations per year according to Valerie Kostas, manager of new office development for the dental chain.
