  • Resident named National American Miss finalist

     

    Lavonne Kay Grimes, 6, of Campbellsville, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Kentucky pageant, which will be May 31 through June 2 at Crowne Plaza in Louisville. The pageant is for girls ages 4 through 18 in five age groups.

    The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 cash award, a crown and banner, roses and transportation to compete at the national pageant at Disneyland in California.

    Kentucky Post Ron Whitehead and Campbellsville musician Sarah Elizabeth toured Scotland, Iceland and England to sing and read the Commonwealth's poetry.

    Ronnie Sharp, 53, of Wise Road in Campbellsville, died Friday, March 28, in Louisville.

    Jessica Humphress and Jeff Watson of Campbellsville will exchange wedding vows on Saturday, April 12.

    Dustin Campbell celebrated his seventh birthday at Mr. Gatti's with his family and friends.

  • Clean Taylor County is April 26

    A Clean Taylor County event will be Friday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the paved back parking lot of the former Fruit of the Loom building.

    Those attending should enter and exit off West Main Street only. Signs will be posted.

    There may be a long line of those dropping off unwanted items, so organizers ask that those attending be patient and watch for traffic and workers.

    Those wishing to drop off items must be in line before 4 p.m.

  • Birth Announcements for March 28

    Jessica Honea of Campbellsville and Brandon Cobb of Greensburg announce the birth of a daughter, Khynleigh ShiAnne Cobb, at 8:23 a.m. on Feb. 22 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. She weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 19 inches long.

    Grandparents are Bill and Anne Sanders of Campbellsville, David Cobb of Greensburg and Linda Cobb of Louisville.

    Great-grandparents are Pauline Graves of Campbellsville and Wade Cobb and Mona Davis of Greensburg.

  • Hunt, Fonfara to wed

     

    Amanda Jo Hunt and Teddy Ray Fonfara of Campbellsville announce their engagement.

    Hunt is the daughter of David and Cathy Mattingly of Lebanon. She is employed at Serco.

    Fonfara is the son of Dianna Fonfara of Omaha, Neb., and the late Terry Fonfara. He is employed at UPS and Robertson Construction.

    The ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, at Pitman Valley Baptist Church in Campbellsville. A reception will follow at the Community Center.

    U.S. Army Spc. Kelly Underwood, a 1996 Taylor County graduate, is a medic with the Army's 3rd Infantry Division 2nd Brigade, which is among the leading edge of U.S. forces in Iraq.

    Taylor County High School chorus will present its 10th anniversary spring musical on Thursday, March 27, and Friday, March 28.

    Carol Mann and the Rev. Gene Weddle exchanged wedding vows on Friday, March 7, in Gatlinburg, Tenn.

  • From the Past

     

    Manufacturing operations at the Parker-Kalon plant on Roberts Road stopped in 1977 as a result of a strike by members of Teamsters Local 783, of which more than half of the estimated 250 employees at the plant are members.

    The strike, according to Robert F. Bihr Jr., industrial relations manager, is because of a dispute involving the terms of a wages and benefits labor contract.

  • Campbellsville native publishes book

     

    Campbellsville native Jackie Hardy has published a novel, a young adult Christian fantasy story.

    Hardy, the daughter of Campbellsville residents Jim and Lorri Hardy, graduated from Campbellsville High School in 2002. She completed a communication degree with a theater emphasis at Campbellsville University in 2006.

    Ever since, Hardy has worked for Walt Disney World in Florida as "friends" of well-known Disney characters, from Mickey Mouse and Piglet to Dopey and Stitch.
