  • While decorations and advertisements for the holiday season generate excitement earlier each year, the anticipation of good times sometimes doesn't match reality.

    Last year, Mary met her 22-year-old daughter Jessie at the home of a friend. The house was beautiful. A large pile of wrapped presents surrounded the tree.

  • Taylor County Girl Scout Troop #222 donated to Toys for Tots and Toys for Kids on Dec. 13. They delivered the toys to Q-104 and had a chance to talk to Brandon Reed during his live show. Pictured are, from left, Sara Courtwright, Sara Clark, Meredith Johnson, Samantha Clark and Brittany Rose.

  • Tracy J. Bertram, a Campbellsville native and director of the Kentucky Office of Insurance Property and Casualty Division, has been elected to the board of directors for the national System for Electronic Rate and Form Filing.

    SERFF, originally developed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in the early 1990s, provides a more efficient method of handling insurance policy rate and form filings between regulators and insurance companies. Bertram also serves on the product steering committee.

  • Eddie and Sam Roution of Merrimac will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 4.

    The Routions were married on Jan. 4, 1958 at The Church of Christ in Campbellsville by Mr. James Cooper.

    They have four sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Hilda Roution and Paul and Sheila Roution, all of Merrimac, Jimmy and Tammi Roution of Mannsville and Barry and Connie Roution of Campbellsville.

  • Kevin and Tina Propes of Campbellsville announce the birth of a daughter, Abigail Grace, at 12:58 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. She weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and was 19 1/4 inches long.

    Grandparents are Ruel and Teresa Brackett of Upton, Donnie Propes of Hodgenville and the late Janet Propes. Great-grandparents are Don and Mary Kathryn Puckett of Upton and Geneva Propes of Hodgenville.

  • Forest Hills Homeowners Association hosted its annual Christmas decorating contest on Friday evening, Dec. 7.

    Three new categories were added this year.

    The winners in each category follow:

    Animation - The Scott and Farrah Hord home, 427 Cambridge Way.

    Best use of colored lights - Terry and Mitzi Tedders' home, 516 Cambridge Way, winner; and Chris and Karen Reynolds' home, 609 Forest Hills Drive, first runner-up.

  • Central Elite All-Stars recently took first place in the Cheer LTD Competition at Berea College.   • J.T. and Melva Beard, formerly of Campbellsville, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Chatham, La., with a surprise reception hosted by their children and grandchildren. The Beards were married at Campbellsville Christian Church on Dec. 6, 1957 by Bro. Bohr. They now live in Chatham and have four children, Scott Beard of Campbellsville, Janie Hlavinka of East Bernard, Texas, Bernie Beard of Plantersville, Texas, and Jeff Beard of West Virginia. They also have seven grandchildren.

  • A send-off reception for Taylor County Junior Miss Megan Romines will be Sunday, Dec. 30.

    The reception is from 2 to 4 p.m. at Campbellsville Baptist Church's Fireside Room.

    Romines will compete Jan. 11-12 in the Kentucky Junior Miss competition at the Lexington Singletary Center.

    Family, friends and community members who wish to show support are invited to attend.

  • The Taylor County Ministerial Association has elected officers for 2008.

    Skip Alexander of Campbellsville Baptist Church was elected to succeed Joe Hatchett of Campbellsville Christian Church as president of the association.

    Other officers are Steve Orr, Kentucky Christian School, vice president; Ted Beam, First United Methodist Church, treasurer; and John Chowning, Campbellsville University and Saloma Baptist Church, secretary.
