    Campbellsville University

    The annual "Adopt-a-Grandparent" Day is Tuesday, April 16.

    Campbellsville University English as a Second Language students are volunteering their time to help senior citizens with household projects in Taylor County.

    Last year more than 70 students participated. This year, the ESL Department hopes to find 12 to 15 senior citizens who would like eager students to help them with their household duties.

    Carl and Ella Holmes will celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary on Saturday, March 1.

    Sierra DeMurray celebrated her fifth birthday on Jan. 30 at her home with her family and friends. She is the daughter of Jason and Kay DeMurray of Campbellsville. She also has a sister, Megan Perkins.

    Team Taylor County Executive Director Kevin Sheilly received Union University's Outstanding Young achiever Award on Feb. 15 in Jackson, Tenn.

    Cindy Nelson and Hollis Bale of Campbellsville were married on Saturday, Nov. 3, at Saloma Baptist Church during a private ceremony. Bro. John Chowning officiated.

    Nelson is the daughter of Harold and Frances Waymon of Elk Horn. She is employed at Fort Knox Federal Credit Union.

    Bale is the son of Jean Bale of Summersville and the late Howard Bale. He is employed at Lowe's.

    Jessica Hedgespeth, the bride's daughter, was her mother's matron of honor. Megan McKinney, the groom's daughter, was her father's attendant.

  • Mary Samantha Belton and Brandon Scott Smothers of Campbellsville announce the birth of a daughter, Chloe Christine Smothers, at 1:24 a.m. on Nov. 29 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon. She weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces and was 19 inches long.

    Grandparents are William Troy and Nona Christine Belton, Larry Jesse Smothers and Christine Mae Smothers, all of Campbellsville.

    Great-grandparents are Wendell and Elvira Belton of Campbellsville.

    Good Hope Baptist Church members celebrated Valentine's Day on Saturday, Feb. 9, with a banquet.

    Kenny Willis provided musical entertainment.

  • Stefanie Jeffries and Jacob Burton of Campbellsville announce their engagement.

    Jeffries is the daughter of Rodney and Julita Jeffries of Campbellsville. She is the granddaughter of Colbert and Lillian Riggs of Lebanon.

    Burton is the son of Noel and Lou Burton of Campbellsville.

    The ceremony will be Saturday, Aug. 31, at The Homeplace on Green River in Campbellsville.

    A reception will follow at the Campbellsville National Guard armory.

    All family and friends are invited to attend.

    Campbellsville University will host a performance of "Much Ado About Nothing" on Feb. 21-24.

    The Shakespeare comedy will be performed by the Campbellsville University Theater department Feb. 21-23 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. in the Russ Mobley Theater of the Alumni Building.

    General admission is $5. Call 789-5266 for reservations.

    Taylor Regional Hospital recently recognized new team members for their first 90 days of service with a breakfast in their honor.

    Taylor Regional Hospital Auxiliary members have made a $23,993.76 donation for the purchase of new equipment to be used in 38 different departments throughout the facility.

    Auxiliary members make this donation every year based on a wish list submitted from team members.

    Wish list requests are submitted for approval at the end of the year and are voted on by auxiliary members.

    Feb. 20, 2003

    Michael "Mike" Bright, long-time fan of Roy Rogers, died on Feb. 5 of cancer. Rogers' son, Dusty, sang at his funeral.

    Courtney Winkle, representing the junior class, was crowned the 2003 Campbellsville High Basketball Homecoming Queen last week during halftime of the Eagles' game with Hart County.

    Shirley Marie Phillips, 66, of Phillips Lane in Campbellsville, died on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, in Campbellsville after a long illness.
