    Mark Johnson, back, fifth from left, was the guest speaker at Troop 616's recent Court of Honor at Bethel First Presbyterian Church.

    Johnson, an Eagle Scout, encouraged the Boy Scouts and urged them to work hard and keep their eyes on becoming Eagle Scouts themselves.

    Troop 616 will host an open house on Thursday, April 18, at Miller Park to demonstrate scouting skills and to recruit those interested in joining Boy Scouts.

    Greater Campbellsville United recently hosted a Diversity Day with Campbellsville/Taylor County adult leadership participants.

    The group spent the day getting to know each other, talking about diversity and learning about leadership. After activities, the group ate lunch together at Garcia's.

    Cousins Tanner Barnes and Carly Bland celebrated their fourth birthdays with friends at Glow Worms on Feb. 25.

    Taylor County High School Future Farmers of America will have a pet adoption fair on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kroger in Green River Plaza.

    Campbellsville High School boys' freshman basketball squad captured the 20th district tournament Feb. 22 and finished with a 16-3 record.

    It's a way to fight obesity and cancer, and get a little color.

    Those passing by Miller Park on March 16 might see something a bit unusual. People will be sprayed with colored cornstarch as they compete in a 5K walk and run.

    And the event will raise money to fight two causes, obesity and children's cancer.

    Campbellsville's "Color to Conquer" walk and 5K run will be Saturday, March 16, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Miller Park. Registration begins at 7 a.m.

  • Deanna and James Barnes of Campbellsville announce the birth of a daughter, Lylah Bleu Barnes, at 8:18 a.m. on Feb. 25 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. She weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Grandparents are Anna and Dean Gillock and Brenda Pierce of Campbellsville and Albert and Cindy Barnes of Louisville.

    Lauren Haines and James "Jamie" Bennett of Campbellsville announce their engagement.

    Haines is the daughter of Thomas and Tonya Haines of Campbellsville.

    She is the granddaughter of Linda Gabehart of Campbellsville and Alton and Barbara Haines of Hiseville, Ky.

    She completed a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry at Campbellsville University.

    Bennett is the son of Johnny and Beverly Bennett of Horse Cave.

    Dale and Dorene Miller will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, March 22.

    Gabrielle J. Roberts of Campbellsville was named to the dean's list at Furman University for the winter term.

    Amy Colvin was honored with a personal shower on Feb. 22 at Leanna Cundiff's home.

    Laura Lee Mitchell of Greensburg and John David Marcum of Campbellsville will exchange wedding vows on Saturday, April 5.

    Campbellsville University

    Campbellsville University's International Justice Mission Club has organized a week, March 11-15, dedicated to standing up against modern-day slavery and sex trafficking.

    The International Justice Mission is one of the coalition partners for the End-It-Movement, a campaign to help raise awareness and end slavery and human trafficking.

    Frank Page Smith and Nell Tapscott Smith of Campbellsville celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on March 6.

    The Smiths were married March 6, 1943, in Campbellsville in a double wedding ceremony with Bob Roberts and Virginia Bryan.

    Dorothy Halen Follis-Payne of Campbellsville and the late Edward Payne were attendants.

    The Smiths married before Mr. Smith was drafted to serve in World War II.

    Before Mr. Smith left Campbellsville on April 7, 1943, for Texas, the two were studying at Campbellsville College.

    Ashley Brooke Tucker, formerly of Campbellsville, just completed her rookie season as an NFL cheerleader for the Tennessee Titans 2002-2003 season. 

    Miller "Sonny" Wilson Jr., 66, of Old Lebanon Road in Campbellsville, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Elizabethtown.
