  • Huddleston grows 9-pound cabbage

     

    Jaden Huddleston, 9, grew this 9-pound cabbage with the help of his grandfather, Coy Sluder.

    Huddleston received the cabbage plant in Beverley McQueary's third grade class at Taylor County Elementary School.

  • Resident cuts hair for Locks of Love

     

    Troy Watson of Campbellsville donated two 10-inch braids of hair recently to Locks of Love at Great Clips.

  • Cattlemen's association donates to Relay for Life

     

    Jason Miller, president of the Taylor County Cattlemen's Association, recently presented Taylor County Relay for Life co-chair Sheila Hayes with a $1,000 check.

    All proceeds from the cattlemen's sale of ribeye sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks at Relay for Life on June 13 went to the local Relay drive.

  • Donut Dash results announced

    The results of Campbellsville Kiwanis Club's first Donut Dash have been released.

    The club hosted the dash last Saturday to raise money for its Coats for Kids program, which provides coats for children who might be unable to afford them. The fundraiser raised $2,097.

    For every donut eaten during the race, two minutes were subtracted from the participant's final time.

    Terry Holmes was the overall winner and was named the Donut Dash champion.

    Winners of the dash, which was a 5K run or 1-mile walk, are as follows.

  • Photo contest winners announced

    Winners of the annual Orthydone photo contest, hosted for the Fourth of July holiday, were recently announced.

    In the Taylor County faces category, first place went to Judy Gwinn, Larry Smith took home second and Connie Shuffett was the third-place winner.

    In the Taylor County children, Krista Kessler took home the top prize. Emily Cook was second and Krista Kessler was third.

    In the Taylor County hands category, Paula Bishop was the first-place winner. Gwinn took home second-place honors and David Cook was third.

  • Burkhead receives scholarship

     

    Brent Burkhead was the recipient of a scholarship recently presented by the brethren of Pitman Lodge.

    He received the scholarship for his dedication and service to the lodge.

    Gregg Williams, master of Pitman Lodge, presented the award.

  • Lodge hosts raffle

     

    Pitman Lodge hosted a gun raffle recently as a fundraiser. This was the first year for this fundraiser, and it will continue because of its large success.

    Don Shuffett was the winner of the Henry 22. Gregg Williams, master of Pitman Lodge, presented the gun.

  • Nolley wins award

     

    Gae Nolley, sales manager at Campbellsville Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, was presented with the John B. Sullivan Award during Saber Management's Annual Awards Banquet in Indianapolis, Ind., on July 7.

    The award is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon any Saber Management associate.

    Nolley earned the award by showing dedication and loyalty and her hard work.

  • Local students participate in CU's Kids College

    Cupcakes were baked and arrows loosed as Kids College was hosted on Campbellsville University's campus in the Virginia Ponser Flanagan Technology Training Center on June 16-19.

  • Local teen crowned Miss Marion County Teen

     

    Cailee Higdon, 15, was recently crowned Miss Marion County Teen at the Marion County Fair.

    Higdon is a sophomore at Taylor County High School.

    Her parents are Charles Jr. and April Higdon of Campbellsville.
