  • Taylor County represented at Acteens conference

     

    Taylor County was represented at the state Acteens conference in Bardstown recently.

    Acteens from Liberty, Lowell Avenue and Pleasant Hill Baptist churches attended the event, which was called EXALT.

    Girls learned to be a Bondservant for Christ.

  • Ellis, Shaw to wed

     

    Elizabeth Malone Ellis, formerly of Campbellsville, and James Cameron Shaw announce their engagement.

    Ellis is the daughter of David Ellis and Cassandra Ellis of Campbellsville.

    Shaw is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Shaw of Plainview, Texas.

    Ellis is a 2006 graduate of Green County High School in Greensburg. In 2009, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. She is employed as a federal grassroots specialist at the American College of Cardiology in Washington, D.C.

  • Gabehart family visits new library

     

    The Gabehart family recently toured the Taylor County Public Library, which is now located at the former Gabehart Lumber Co. building on East Broadway.

    Adult Services Librarian Debbie Parson said the Gabeharts were pleased and surprised with the transformation of the lumber company space into the new library.

  • Crawleys celebrate anniversary

     

    Dennis and Sarah Crawley, residents at The Grandview, recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

    The couple met at a Campbellsville Youth for Christ meeting years ago and were married when they were young.

    They are members of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

  • GCU donates books to public library

     

    Greater Campbellsville United recently donated two books to the Taylor County Public Library.

    GCU donated "Lincoln's Hundred Days" by Louis P. Masur and "The King Years: Historic Moments in the Civil Rights Movement" by Taylor Branch.

  • Legion donates to send care packages to troops

     

    American Legion Post 82 recently donated $500 to Taylor County Bank's drive to send supplies to Campbellsville National Guard troops activated overseas.

  • Howard is new rotary club member

     

    Clark Howard recently joined the Campbellsville Rotary Club. He is pictured with president Jane Wheatley.

    The club meets every Wednesday at Taylor Regional Hospital at noon.

  • Metal disk found in 1974 tornado damage

     

    Nolan "Hotshot" Gilpin holds a metal disk that sliced into a tree 39 years ago during the April 3, 1974, tornado that ripped through Mannsville.

    Though no one was killed, the tornado damaged many businesses and homes.

    Gilpin said the tree was located on his late brother Edwin's property on Joe Kerr Road.

  • From landscaper to children's author

     

    He is a landscaper by trade, but he recently fulfilled a dream when he penned and published his first children's story.

    Rob Harris of Campbellsville, owner of Harris Lawn & Landscaping, self-published his first children's book, "Elkadorfia - The Secret Realm of the Mighty Oaks."

    The e-book version was released in June 2011. The paperback hit shelves last December. The book is available for purchase on Amazon.com.

    Originally from LaRue County, Harris traveled a lot while serving in the United States Navy.

  • Judge/executive proclaims Cancer Registrar's Week

     

    Cancer registrars throughout the world joined colleagues, fellow medical professionals and community leaders recently to observe the 17th annual National Cancer Registrars Week, which was April 8-12. The purpose of NCRW is to emphasize the important role cancer registrars play in capturing the data that informs cancer research, prevention and treatment programs.
