  • Squires stationed at Air Force's 'tropical paradise'

    Most people are drawn to the tiny Pacific island of Guam for the warm weather, pristine coral reefs and lush tropical flora. Japanese honeymooners flock there, and this U.S. territory is closer to Japan, the Philippines and Australia than to its closest American neighbor, Hawaii.

    Because of its location in the western Pacific and west of the international dateline, it's the first place on American soil to see the sun rise each morning.

  • Conner profiled in Marquis' 'Who's Who in American Education'

    Jeanette Jones Conner's biography will appear in the 2007-2008 Edition of Marquis' Who's Who in American Education.

    She is a native of Lee County, Va. and graduated from St. Charles High School in Virginia in the top four of her graduating class. After high school, she worked two years in a sewing factory and eight years in Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.

  • Legion Auxiliary donation

    American Legion Auxiliary Post 82 President Brenda Floyd accepts the first gallon of pop tops from Lawanda Young, who collected the tops from friends and co-workers. The collection will benefit Kentucky Children's Hospital. The goal is to raise $15,000. Members of the auxiliary are also collecting ink and toner cartridges for the same drive.

  • Birth Announcements

    Robert Jr. and Leslie Lamer of Campbellsville announce the birth of a son, Owen Thomas, at 8:22 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 5 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. He weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 19 1/2 inches long.

    Grandparents are Ricky and Paula Collins, Rose Mary Osinger and the late Robert H. Lamer Sr.

    Great-grandparents are Esther Milburn, Catherine Kearney and the late Harold Milburn and James Kearney.

  • Sailabada-Chartisathian

    Tao Sailabada and Ton Chartisathian, both of Bangkok, Thailand, will exchange wedding vows on Sunday, Dec. 23.

    The bride is the daughter of Val and Poolsuk Mansfield of Wellington, New Zealand and Bangkok.

  • Cain earns Chicken Festival title

    Sarah Jewelian Cain of London won Miss Ambassador, Miss Duchess and Most Beautiful in her age division of 13-15 at the World Chicken Festival in London. The daughter of Kim Cain and the late Robert Cain, she received two tiaras, three trophies, a diamond ring and brooch, a $200 savings bond and $100 cash. Cain will advance to the state pageant, which is in November. Her grandparents are Carol Cain of London and the late Linvelle Cain and G.T. and Jewell Eubank, who lived in Campbellsville.

  • Penn-Sharp

    Anna Lindsey Penn and John David Sharp, both of Campbellsville, exchanged wedding vows on Saturday, June 9 at Palestine Baptist Church in Campbellsville.

    Bro. Danny Pace performed the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of John and Tana Penn of Mannsville. Her grandparents are Charlie and Patsy Lampley of Calvert City, Ky., and Donnie Penn and Jeanette Penn, both of Campbellsville.

    The groom is the son of Gary and Mary Ann Sharp of Campbellsville. His grandparents are Floyd and Pauline Wise and Loretta Sharp, all of Campbellsville, and the late Bill Sharp.

  • England anniversary

    Herbert and Elizabeth England celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on Nov. 8.

    Mr. England was a self-employed contractor in Taylor County for more than 55 years.

    They have two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Ray and Leslie England of Greenville, Ky., and Larry and Betty Sue England of Campbellsville; and a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Wayne Sapp of Campbellsville.
