  • Veterans from throughout Kentucky honored by South Korean General

    When Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs staff arrived at the Exposition Center at 7:45 a.m. Thursday to begin preparing for a 2 p.m. ceremony honoring veterans of the Korean War, James B. Short was waiting for them.

    The Army veteran of Korea and two tours in Vietnam had driven up the night before from Harlan.

    "Nobody ever gave me anything for my service before," he said. "I wasn't about to miss this."

    "This" was the presentation of special medallions and certificates to Kentucky's veterans of the Korean War, from Major General (Ret.) Choi Seung-Woo.

  • Erickson-Moore

    Karen Michelle Erickson of Redondo Beach, Calif. and Jonathan Talmadge Moore of Long Beach, Calif. will exchange wedding vows on Saturday, Aug. 16.

    Erickson is the daughter of Roger and Pamela Erickson of San Jose, Calif. Her grandparents are Orpha Erickson of Peoria, Ill., Jewell Thornton of San Jose and the late Martin Erickson and James Andrew Thornton.

    She is a graduate of the University of Richmond, where she earned her bachelor of arts in history and American studies. Erickson is a video editor for NBC-Universal Television.

  • Roy Kids Corner

    Madelyn Kathryn Roy, born April 28, is the daughter of Reggie and Sarah Roy of Russell Springs. Her grandparents are Nelson and Nancy Pickett of Greensburg and Osburn and Loureda Roy of Russell Springs. Great-grandparents are Stanford and Elnora Pickett of Greensburg.

  • Deweese celebrates 75th birthday

    Christine Deweese celebrated her 75th birthday with her family and friends on July 9 at Elk Horn Baptist Church. She is holding her great-granddaughter, Jaylen Patterson.

  • Whitehouse-Montgomery

    Don and Julie Whitehouse of Crestwood announce the engagement of their daughter, Amanda Brooke Whitehouse of Lexington, to Philip David Montgomery of Louisville, son of David and Saundra Montgomery of Campbellsville.

    Whitehouse is a 2001 graduate of South Oldham High School and a 2007 graduate of the University of Kentucky. She is attending the UK M.I.C. graduate program.

  • Taylor County Junior Miss participants 'Catch the Reading Bug'

    Taylor County Junior Miss participants recently helped the Taylor County Public Library with its Summer "Catch the Reading Bug" Celebration at Veterans Memorial Park as part of their volunteer efforts with the Be Your Best Self Program.

    America's Junior Miss promotes the Be Your Best Self Program, an outreach aimed at encouraging self-esteem in young people from all over the country. BYBS emphasizes seven elements: getting a good education, community service, proper nutrition, staying fit, living by moral principles, setting goals and striving to reach those goals.

  • Barnett

    Richard and Virginia Barnett of Campbellsville will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 2.

    The Barnetts were married on Aug. 6, 1948.

    They have two children, Elizabeth Sanders and Ricky Barnett.

    A reception will be hosted in their honor on Saturday at the Campbellsville Country Club beginning at 11 a.m.

    All family members and friends are invited to attend.

  • Ward-Druin

    Whitney Lynn Ward and Jordan Druin, both of Greensburg, will exchange wedding vows on Saturday, Aug. 2.

    Ward is the daughter of Hank and MaDonna Brown of LaGrange, N.C. and Barry and Lynn Ward of Summersville. Her grandparents are Barbara Hart, Charlie Perkins and Betty Lu Lile, all of Greensburg, and the late Wayne Ward.

    She is a student at the University of Kentucky.

    Druin is the son of Steve and Kathy Druin of Greensburg. His grandparents are Wayne Lile and Radine Lile, both of Greensburg, and the late Robert and Nancy Druin.

  • Payne-McKee

    Sharon McKee of Campbellsville announces the engagement of her son, Mac McKee, to Lora Beth Payne, daughter of Dennis and Faith Payne of Mt. Vernon, Ky.

    Payne is a 1998 graduate of Rockcastle County High School and a 2002 graduate of Cumberland College. She is employed as a social worker at Rockcastle Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

    McKee is a 1994 graduate of Campbellsville High School and is employed at Panasonic in Berea, Ky.

  • Fruit of the Loom unit gathers for reunion

    More than two dozen former employees of Fruit of the Loom's former Campbellsville plant met recently for a reunion.

    Dixie Wise welcomed all those who attended to her home on Old Lebanon Road on Saturday, July 19.

    The women had all worked together for more than 20 years in the 3800 Unit at FOL.
