  • Republican women elect officers

    Taylor County Republican Women installed officers for 2009 during their Dec. 2 meeting at the home of Brenda Barnett.   • Cox honored in MADD publication

    Mothers Against Drunk Driving recently published its fall national donor newsletter issue called "The Road Ahead."

    The newsletter is mailed to donors throughout the country who have made major financial contributions to the organization.

    A photo honoring the late Karen Cox, daughter of Joseph and Frieda Cox of Campbellsville, appears in the issue.

    For each issue of The Road Ahead, selected photos of friends, family and loved ones who have been killed or injured in a drunk driving crash are published.

  • Taylor Regional Hospital presents service awards to auxiliary volunteers

    Taylor Regional Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers hosted their annual awards luncheon on Dec. 2 in the hospital's meeting room.

    With 61 workers, the Auxiliary has given 8,085 1/2  volunteer hours in 2008 to assist Taylor Regional Hospital by working at the information desk, surgery department, emergency department, radiology department, cancer center, as greeter and gift shop.

    The Auxiliary also collected canned food items to be donated to the local food pantry as part of their service to the community.

  • Green honored with baby shower

    Ashley Tucker Green was honored with a baby shower Nov. 23 at the home of Janet Mills. She and her husband, David Green, are expecting their first child in January.   • Russell meets cooking star

    Shandi Russell of Campbellsville met cooking star Rachael Ray during her book signing tour on Dec. 10 at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lexington. Ray is promoting her new cookbook "THE ORANGE BOOK," which is currently in the Top 10 on the New York Times BestSellers list.

  • Riggs

    Orval and Mary Riggs celebrated their 60th anniversary at The Grandview in Campbellsville.

    They were married on Dec. 13, 1948, at the Presbyterian church on West Main Street in Campbellsville.

    The Riggses have six children - Sandy Moore, Martha Slinker, Orval Riggs Jr., Rick Riggs, Timmy Riggs and Kenny Riggs. They also have 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

  • Miller-Sproles

    Terri D. Miller and Shawn Sproles exchanged wedding vows in a private ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 29 at The Chapeze House in Bardstown.

    Col. Carl Michael Masters performed the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William "Billy" Miller of Campbellsville. Her grandparents are Mary Ella Hayden of St. Mary's and the late Joseph Louis Hayden, Fannie Mae Dawson Jones and William Russell Young.

    She is a registered nurse, employed at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

  • Girl Scout Cookies coming soon

    Satisfy your sweet tooth while giving girls the vital skills they need to succeed in life. Local Girl Scouts will soon be out selling cookies to the general public.

    Girls will start taking orders beginning today, and booth sales are set to begin Feb. 23.

    Cookie-lovers everywhere will still be able to purchase the classic Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-si-dos, Trefoils, Lemon Chalet Crèmes and the sugar-free Chocolate Chips cookies.

  • Brents Anniversary

    Gary Michael and Susan Hubbard Brents of Campbellsville will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Dec. 31.

    The Brents have two children, Michael Clelland Brents and Holly Ann Brents.

    A reception will be hosted in their honor on Saturday, Jan. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Soule's Chapel United Methodist Church.

    All relatives and friends are invited to attend.
