  • Burgess celebrates 90th birthday

     

    Opal Cave Burgess of Royal Oak, Mich., recently celebrated her 90th birthday at the home of her youngest daughter in Troy, Mich.

    Burgess was born and raised in Campbellsville.

    She is married to Cliff Burgess and has eight children; Roberta Roberts of New Rochelle, New York; Linda Dernier of Campbellsville; Jo Ann Burgess of Gastonia, N.C.; Marie Burgess of Ft. Myers, Fla.; Cliff Burgess of Beatrice, Neb.; Paula Moreland of Granville, Ohio; Hank Burgess of Farmington Hills, Mich.; and Darlene Field of Troy.

  • Air Evac base and employees honored

     

    Campbellsville Air Evac Lifeteam base and two of its employees were recently honored with regional awards.

    The base has been selected as the company's Region 2 Base of the Year for this year. Region 2 consists of Air Evac Lifeteam bases in Kentucky, Ohio, parts of Tennessee and West Virginia.

    Also, Tom Lecompte was named Region 2 Pilot of the Year and Lanny Thompson was named Region 2 Mechanic of the Year.

  • Former resident wins karaoke competition

     

    Sheryl Bell of Radcliff, formerly of Campbellsville, recently won third place in the Fort Knox Karaoke Idol competition.

    She received a trophy and cash prize.

  • American Legion gets facelift

     

    American Legion Post 82 recently received a makeover.

    Its front entrance was renovated and its Army tank replica was repainted.

    Barb and Phil Davis, Jim Bright, Greg Parent and Greg Collins were involved with the renovation.

    The public is invited to stop and take photos with the tank.

  • Birth Announcements for August 15

    Tammy and Jamie Phelps of Columbia announce the birth of a daughter, Abella Jazmyn Phelps, at 10:06 a.m. on July 13 at Taylor Regional Hospital. She weighed 8 pounds and was 19.75 inches long.

    Grandparents are Robert Phelps of Columbia and Sandy and Lee Rainwater and Clifford and Joyce Logan of Somerset.

    Makayla Dawn and Daniel W. Cornett of Liberty announce the birth of a daughter, Gena Lynn Cornett, at 5:03 p.m. on July 31 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. She weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces and was 18.5 inches long.

  • Riverses celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

     

    Wendell and Quida Rivers of Campbellsville recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

    Richard McKinley married the couple June 21, 1963. The ceremony was the first at Woodlawn Christian Church.

  • Calhoun, Rice to wed

     

    Kimberly Calhoun and Kenyon Rice of Louisville announce their engagement.

    Calhoun is the daughter of Phyllis Calhoun of Campbellsville and the late Max Calhoun.

    Rice is the son of Pete and Vonnie Rice of Campbellsville.

    Calhoun and Rice are employed at UPS in Louisville.

    The ceremony will be Saturday, Aug. 24, in Louisville. Invitations have been sent.

  • Washington promoted to major

     

    United States Army Capt. Bridget Washington was recently promoted to major.

    Washington's family, which includes the Rev. James and Wanda Washington of Campbellsville, were a part of the pinning ceremony at Brooke Army Medical Center Chapel at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas.

  • Perkins, Kelly to wed

     

    Haley Camille Perkins of Campbellsville and James Christopher Kelly of Springfield announce their engagement.

    Perkins is the daughter of Andy and Valerie Perkins of Campbellsville. She is the granddaughter of Evelyn Perkins and Bonnie Nolley of Campbellsville.

    Kelly is the son of Dianna Kelly of Louisville and Donnie Kelly of Springfield.

    The ceremony will be Saturday, Aug. 10, at 6 p.m. at Sweetheart Bridge in Springfield. A reception will follow.

    All family and friends are invited to attend.

  • Barnetts celebrate 65th wedding anniversary

     

    Richard and Virginia Barnett of Campbellsville recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary at their home.

    The Barnetts were married Aug. 6, 1948. They have a son, Ricky Barnett, and a daughter, Elizabeth Sanders, both of Campbellsville.
